For years and years I refused to wear a helmet for obvious reasons, ugly, uncomfortable, etc. Finally a few years ago I bought one just to get my girlfriend off my back it was a cheaper Bell that looked like I was wearing a footabll on me head or one of the creatures of Alien. hrgiger.comalien.htmOpen ↗ While discussing the pros and cons of helmets with a few riders at a LBS (Bike Nook , S.F.Ca) Len the owner suggested I try a more upscale helmet. The retention systems and design are much more pleasant and in fact quite dashing. It came down to two I preferred, a Giro Pneumo or Giro Xen. I finally chose the Giro Xen and love it. Even though It is designated a MTN helmet and I'm mainly a roadie I like the fit, the design and comfort. nashbar.comprofile moreimages.cfmOpen ↗

So what do you put on top of your noggin?
Not really my "favorite," but I use a trek anthem.
I like the design, it feels great, and it's got superb ventiliation.
I wear the Giro Boreas, the ancestor to the Atmos. I have a little head, so it looks dumb (yes, it fits right) but damn, it's like not wearing a helmet.
The $18.00 Bell that I got at Wallmart. It's comfortable, looks O.K., and effective. This is my second one. The first was retired after I hit a dog and got a baseball sized impact on the right frontal lobe area. That's why I know it's effective, as I'd probably be dead had I not been wearing one.
I also use a Giro Pneumo. Great helmet, light well vented. I cannot agree with you more, the "Roc Lock" system works great, making the helmet fit well while still being comfortable.
Limar 909 Racing Team - light, huge vents, best temple protection on the market, great secure dial-up lock....tried Giro, Trek, Bell, Catlike, and a host of Euro makes...this is the bees knees! (for road and track)
