I have seen a web site out there somewhere that was
attempting to not only document all known nick names but
also the source. Some riders have had to share nick names
too. I will try to find it and post it here if I do.

Both of them are missing "the divine baldy" (Miguel Poblet).
One of my favorites is also "the wolf of the Abruzzi", a
great nickname for a small rider (Silvestri La Cioppa).

Do you seriously mean that you don't know who Tintin is
(pronouced tahn-tahn)? He was sort of a young (maybe 15 or
so to begin with and aging to perhaps 19?) hero of many
comic book stories published, mainly I believe, in the
1930's. Most of these were sort of like story books more
than cartoons and Tin-tin stories weren't idiotic but more
for intelligent people. Adventuresome and quite the thing
for a young boy.

The author was one Herge' whom I infer was French since they
seem to have come originally from there and were originally
written in French. The stories were so involving that they
were translated into some 30+ languages. You can find them
for sale on Ebay to this day. I wouldn't doubt that they're
still being published and certainly while I was in France
you could see the animated stories that stuck VERY closely
to the originals from what I saw.

Tintin had red hair with sort of a [censored] in front. His head
and his face were round and his nose was round. Rebellin
looks about as much like Tintin as he does any other comic
book character short of Wonder Woman.

Laurent Dufaux is actually Swiss, but I don't know if
he's from the French-Swiss region...

I remember reading an article on the Paris_Roubaix that
Franco Ballerini lost by a whisker that referred to him
as "Boohoo" Ballerini after he said he'd never come
back. I thought that was kind of funny, but the fact he
came bback and won the thing was a good way to dispel
that nickname.
