  1. Wainwright mentions it being out of bounds...is this still the case?

It has been included in Bill Birkett's Complete Lakeland Fells for
some time (since 1994) and appears in the paperback edition which
appeared four years later without alteration. Had there been
complaints from the owners I would have expected it to show.

On my website I've written "In times gone by The Nab and its
surrounding private land (a deer park) have been heavily fenced and
with dire warnings for tresspassers. This is no longer the case and I
believe walkers are nowadays tolerated except perhaps in the stalking
season. Those who wish to ensure they do not end up in the venison
stew can check with Dalemain Estates who administer the property, at
their offices in Pooley Bridge." The only complaints I've ever
received purporting to be from Dalemain Estates have clearly been
forged. Some folks will do anything for a laugh.:-(

When I climbed The Nab to complete my Wainwrights, I got the address
of the Estate from the National Park office; wrote them a letter as
requested; and then telephoned the farm on the day of the walk to check that
all was well. This was probably about five or six years ago. It was a bit
of a hassle, but nothing to write home about.

    Hope this is useful!

  4. The traditional deer friendly way was to pop across the bogs on the
    connecting ridge to Rest Dodd.

That's the way I did it last year as part of a round of Martindale from
Beda Fell to Arthurs Pike plus Steel Knotts. ISTR it was 18 miles and
5800 fet of ascent and at least a peak to far as far as my knees were
concerned. I posted a TR at the time but no idea what the title was.

  7. I've done the Nab twice before, last time was about 5 years ago from Brock
Crags, I followed a wall further down on Rest Dodd west flank, crossed over
the wall, walked 20 yards and fell straight into a bog! My leg was covered
    in think black ^%&%^.

The secret to pass the bogs on the Nab from this direction seems to be to
head for the east Flank and skirt around the bogs. There's a well worn path
    leading to it's top.
