Famous wheel builders

In the early 80's someone used to advertise"Champion Wheels, built by Bricky" in the comic. It was
either Dave Lloyd, when he had the shop in Bebington, or Dave Hinde in Crewe.

If someone asked me to name a famous wheel builder I think Pete Matthews would be my first
answer, too.

But buy the next issue of Mountain Bike Action (The september one), they run an article about the
very subject except of course the cover US builders.

One of my last conversations in an LBS (certainly the last in that one!) centred around
wheelbuilding, and the fact you _could_ build wheels. The clueless spotty oik was not only convinced
that all wheels came out of a Taiwanese wheel-o-matic machine, but that this was the _only_ way to
obtain one.

No doubt a recumbent was what happened when you let a normal bicycle be hatched out by a
cockerel....

I've heard of Harry Rowland in wheelbuilding circles (sorry). I've not had any wheels built by
him though.

Harry Rowland built the wheels on my Roberts road bike and Paul Hewitt the ones on my custom tourer.

Dave Hinde's in Northwich now and has been for many years - I used to live just along from his shop.
