Just wondering, did you take any pictures (ie: camera phone) of signage or note what the gate admin said to you? Collate/compile a report on what actually occured and send it to 1. Caribbean Gardens admin, 2. Local Council 3. State Govt (Sport & Rec, DoI) 3. Local newspapers.

Also make mention in your notes that numerous other markets allow, and cater for bicycle parking & adequate access. These are just quick ideas, and others could refine or elaborate your arguments.

As a example of lobbying for adequate bike parking at a local level, see this YarraBUG request & response for Bike Parking at Gleadell Street Markets in Richmond (June-July 05) i.e.: there's now several bike hoops in the area to cater for bike parking

So you're not allowed to cycle on the same roads within the market that
cars and motorbikes use? That's bizarre. But then so is calling it
"Caribbean".

If it's private property, then it's all up to the owners of the property.

No "normal" road rules apply (speed, turn restrictions, U turns etc)
although signs are posted up and drivers expected to comply with those signs.
Said owners can't "book" you officially if you "break" their speed limit or
whatever, but can ask you to leave (and _make_ you leave if need be).

If they restrict bicycles, that's their right to do that.

Two things people can do here, lobby the local council, (they can't do
anything about it, but the publicity will do the markets some damage perhaps
prompting some change).
Or you can vote with your wallet (don't shop there), make sure people know
why, and let karma do the rest (this works a little more often than you think!)

Beware of new laws our democratic government is proposing - you might
find yourself in big financial trouble if you tell too many people. I
don't know if this law has been promulgated yet.

Heh. My local hospital claim to ban bikes on the grounds. Including
the entrance to the hospital. I just went in anyway, and parked my
bike in a convenient spot out of the way of ped traffic.

But I live in a progressive town. The local council claim via signage
that I am not allowed to ride my bike on the road into town and that I
need to ride on the footpath that doens't have any suitable exit
points to the roads I want to access. Little do they seem to
know/care that it's RTA's road. Again, I ignore them.

Stupid fsckers. Fuel price has been stagnant for a few months. Can
we have another refinery failure please?

Its ok, Hurricane season has only just started there should be a few more big ones to go through and stop the refineries a few times, driving the price or else the price of fish will go down and therefore the Oil price will go up.

Back onto the Carribean garden thing, that is just unbelieveable, maybe they want to avoid cycling people, because they assume they are not there to spend money because they are too busy cycling around enjoying themselves to buy anything.
