some stuff, which is why I was surprised to see the porno posting to
the group a couple of weeks ago.) I saw them earlier in the evening,
via Google.
I know I sent some dual postings on Wednesday evening because I found
that things I was sending with Agent, via Claranet, weren't showing
up, and so I sent copy/pasted a few of them and sent them via my
Google account. My postings from Agent/Claranet and Google are very
easy to tell apart, though, because (i) my ID shows up as Peewiglet in
things posted via Agent/Claranet, whereas I'm 'nogooglenickname' when
posting via Google, and (ii) I mentioned at the top of all the Google
postings that it was me, Peewiglet, posting from Google, precisely
because I wouldn't want to appear to be someone else/to be hidden
behind a different name.
I've just been over to Google to try to work out how to provide the
message IDs. I think I may have solved the problem re: the 2 postings
that seemed to consist just of quoted text with no comment, but the
third one I mentioned - the one where all the paragraphs of a long
posting from Roger had been separated out and a full stop or question
mark had been placed between each - is no longer there, or at least no
longer visible to/findable by me.
The two where I didn't appear to have written anything may well have
been caused by a display problem on the Google Beta. As it displays on
my PC, quoted text is shown in blue (with little >s to the left) and
new text in black. In some posts, however - for instance, the one
currently shown as message number 147 in the Access Land thread, or
Message ID Message-ID: <[email hidden]> -
all the text is shown in blue, and at a glance it looks as though no
new text has been added. A closer look reveals the new message shown
in blue with no little >s to the left, though. Also, Message-ID:
<[email hidden]> (currently Message 135 in
the Google thread list on my PC) - as it shows up on my PC - just
shows the words 'Show quoted text' and then my signature, and what I
wrote only shows up when I click on 'show quoted text', but looks like
part of the earlier message. It may be I saw a couple of those last
night and thought they purported to be new postings with no new text.
What is certain, though, because I was so suprised that I went back
and checked it several times, is that there was a posting last night
labelled Peewiglet - therefore purporting to have been sent via
Agent/Claranet, not Google - in alleged reply to Roger's long posting,
containing full stops and question marks as described above. I did
send a reply to one of Roger's postings where I put question marks
after the first couple of paragraphs, but I added a lot of text after
many of the remaining paragraphs. What I saw is not a copy of that
one.
I'm almost certain that the posting I've just described was numbered
163 in the list of postings to that thread on Google last night, and
it was definitely dated 19th January, but I don't know whether the
numbering shows up the same on everyone's computer. I know it's
possible to withdraw postings - I did it myself a week or so when I
accidentally posted some private info relating to someone else to the
group - so I know the numbers can change.
Anyway, I'm aware that this may all sound weird, but it's a fact: last
night the posting was there, now I can't see it - and I've looked
several times - and there's no copy of it in my outbox, which confirms
to me that I didn't send it. I've come across faked postings in other
NGs over the years, although haven't experienced one myself before
now. Hopefully that's the last of it.
