Fake letter nutter strikes again.

People might remember that there is a local nutcase who has faked several letters in national and local papers which basically complain about cyclists (esp. with no lights). In my case he has done little more than write in to these papers using my name, but a fake address. However, he knows the address of another local cyclist and here is what that person has had to put up with. I have deleted the names as I haven't asked if I can publish his private e-mails. "Having contacted HP re: bogus letters, I thought you might like to know that including today I have received 4 postcards from the national Daily Mail to either yourself or Mr. P but with my home address on them, a letter from the Daily Express for HP, a sex catalogue and a confirmation for the order of a magnifying glass, a flea detector and a bra from Healthy Living Direct with your name but my address. Also the Hull Daily Mail has previously published a letter purporting to be from me, with your address, about the Chief Constable of Humberside. Obviously, some motorist has taken umbrage at something. Do you have any suspicions as to who this tedious mischief - maker might be ?" -------------- I have this morning ( Wednesday ) received an anonymous card. People might remember that there is a local nutcase who has faked several
letters in national and local papers which basically complain about cyclists

these papers using my name, but a fake address. However, he knows the
address of another local cyclist and here is what that person has had to put
up with.
I have deleted the names as I haven't asked if I can publish his private
e-mails.

I have this morning ( Wednesday ) received an anonymous card.
The message, inside a 21st birthday card, reads:

I SAW YOUR LETTER IN THE DAILY MIRROR
REGARDING THE POVERTY STRICKEN CYCLISTS
UNABLE TO AFFORD LIGHTS
WELL DONE P
YOUR OLD MATE SIMON MASON ( CYCLE CLUB )
It is written in capitals throughout, but is clearly
by the same hand as your fake letter.

The letters editor at the Daily Mirror can find no trace in the last
4 months of any letter using my name.
There is no stamp or postmark on the envelope.

A Google for *"Hull mail", cyclists* brings up just one page, a
reference to the attempted road rage murder by Carl Baxter .
Could it be this case which has stirred up such passions against local
cyclists by employees, friends or family of the incarcerated Carl
Baxter?
Perhaps you - the mysterious "P" and "HP", whose identity is obvious,
have all written letters about cycling to the Hull Mail.

Be aware that the nutter may have access to USENET; posting
details of some of your intended actions may tip him off,
and (worse?) he might use a "sock puppet" to feed you
bogus leads.

Calling the police? I'd have thought it's a risk of sending numerous false
letters. I would have covered up the address used in the scan though. Even
if it is an old one. Some new nutter may have found something to do.

No, he hasn't even got a typewriter; his letters are all hand written, so
it is very unlikely he is computer literate. The recipient of the strange
items through the post has stated that he is ready to go to the police. I
haven't much of a case as all that's happened to me is these fake letters in
my name.

This has been going on for much longer than the Baxter case. In any case, I
can't see how anyone can have sympathy for Baxter, even his relatives, less
any idea that the cyclists were at fault in the incident.

Even if you haven't a good case it will certainly be worth the recipient
giving your details to the Police as part of his complaint.

My local rag makes up letters from "Mr angry motorist". I caught them out
when they printed a riposte to a letter I'd written that they had neglected
to publish. I pointed out their mistake to them and it's gone quiet since...

Probably could get done under that "stalking" law. It's such a broad
piece of legislation that almost anything can be be used as the basis
to get someone locked up.

Or just claim that you heard he was a terrorist. That way you don't even
have to worry about the law as it'll never reach the courts anyway! :-)

When my dad was features editor of the Sunday Mirror he used to make
up the horoscope entry for Libra if he didn't like the one Constance
Sharpe had provided. Either that or swap it with a more favourable one
from another sign. Apparently she never complained. Of course she
probably never read the Mirror.
