Anyone got any suuggestions on how to remove a [censored] BB, without having access to the correct tools? I went to my local H*lf*rds and got teh response I was expecting (a blank look). The problem is I'd like to get the bike sorted out, but being away this coming weekend means Ive got to wait 2 weeks until I can get it down to the LBS (why don't they open when we actually need them? :-)

Give the LBS a phone maybe? Ask if they'll stay open late/early for you?

if the BB is to discarded and the cups are made out of plastic: heat and a big hammer

this seems a tad expensie for a tool I'll never use again. I was hoping that one of the 'Park BB tool for Sach /Campag' would fit, which is a damn site cheaper at £8 but since I don't have one I'm not sure. So could anyone tell me if this would work, or should I just wait 10 more days?
Iffn your [censored] BB is the same as the one I had - plastic knurled wossname on the non-drive side - I used to use something similar to this:
Mine's a Sugino and dates back to the early Bronze Age.

It might, perhaps worth a go, but apparently it's poor as it slips easily. The Tacx tool is excellent. It would fetch good money on eBay if resold afterwards. Note that it requires a large adjustable spanner.
When I was offered a [censored] BB by my LBS it was the price of the tool and the likely difficulty in finding parts for it that made me buy as standard Shimano one. Not that that's much help as an expensive tool is about your only option if you want to keep the BB
