Warrany is void on all sun recumbents sold via internet. It says so on the bottom of the front page.

I would caution you against advising poeple to buy the bikes through unauthorized channels, without
at least warning them of the potential pitfalls.

Hi Carl,

We rented an EZ Tandem from Mt. Airy Cycles and took it on about a 22-mile ride through the
beautiful Maryland countryside. It was a nice-handling and easy to adjust bike. I think for the
cost, it's a good value and has some nice features. Personally, I would choose it over a Double
Vision (better handling and more stable feeling than the Double Vision). But, I wouldn't trade it
for the Screamer!

I didn't advise anybody to buy a bike from e-bay,just informed them of the

According to the website of Easy racers- they will not honer the warranty on
any bike unless it's purchased from and set up by a bike shop, no internet
,which sounds like no mail order, don't see how they can void a frame
warranty ,what if it's purchased second hand?

1st off we are talking about Sun Bicycles, Easy Racers only does the design work for Sun, no
warranty or support services are provided by Easy Racers.

2nd, all warranties are valid only for the orignal owner, 2nd hand owners lose the warranty.

My mistake, I meant Sun, but it does seem that the frame warranty should be
transferable to 2nd 3rd or 4th owners so long as they have proof of the
bikes age.
I'm pretty sure most other manufacturers would honer at least the frame
warranty no matter whether it was bought on the internet or bought new ,used
or whatever.
As a matter of fact Lightning Bikes has replaced chain Idlers for my p-38
and I'm the second owner.All they asked was the model year.
If Sun Bikes will only honor the warranty for the original owner and only
if it is delivered and set up by a LBS,no mail order or Internet, then one
may be better of buying from the least expensive seller.
I wonder how dealers like The Hostel shoppe get around this warranty issue
on their Sun bikes sold over the Internet?
I also wonder about the policy of other major Bent Manufacturers such as

Many stateside 'bent manufacturers will deliver excellent service even if you're not
"technically" under warranty. However, you will not have the same luck trying to talk directly
to a Taiwanese manufacturer. You said "I'm pretty sure most other manufacturers would honer at

entitled to anything past what is in the written warranty. Each company has it's own warranty
policy on their website. I would disagree with your statement about the large majority of bikes
sold over the internet. For each of the manufacturers you specified I know for a fact they are

bikes are sold via the Internet and come dissasembled?" It is a CPSC regulation
(cpsc.govregsumbicycles.pdfOpen ↗) that all bikes intended to be sold directly to
a customer, must have special packaging and instructions. So unless the manufacturers take these
steps (which none do to my knowledge) they are not supposed to sell directly to customers. I do
believe completely assembling and adjusting a bike then taking it apart just enough to pack
(like we do at Easy Racers) gets around this requirement.

Here we have a person who simply asked for some information and the thread went wild. I sold a very
fit couple one of the first EZ Tandems available. After 3K they still love it. It's weight makes it
a hill slug but otherwise its a sound vehicle. Everything works pretty good especially when you
consider the price. I'm waitin' to ride the new aluminum version with an eye towards one for myself.
I have assembled and sold four to date with zero problems. I meticously assemble them and test ride
them prior to their leaving the shop. This is the value added you get when purchasing at a dealer.
E-Bay/Internet sales are fine if you are willing to assemble and deal with the assembelly problems
that dealers see and correct. Additionally, the EZ Tandem is not UPS shipable, which means truck.
Which means expensive.

I bought a used EZ tandem last summer. It was our first tandem, but I have a Vision R44 bent. We
really like tandeming, but it is slow - 2 to 3 mph slower than my R44. I have no experience on other
tandems, but the EZ handles well, no frame flex, but it is heavy. I am not a big fan of LBS. The LBS
that originally set up our EZ did a bad job. They apparently had never seen one. The stem was
installed backwards, and way too low. The front brake cable is not installed properly. I have had
poor luck with any warranty, so that does not bother me, either. I usally do my own maintenance.

It's a fun bike. Oddly, we also were displeased with the dealer we used, confused by the peculiar
but creative fashion in which the bike had been assembled, denied a manual or warranty card, and
can't imagine going back. No I won't say who they are. There is another bent shop a little farther
away (100 miles vs 50), and I've been using them for bent specific stuff, and a standard LBS for
more universal stuff (tubes & tires, that sort of thing).

As for mail order, I'm reformed. Won't do it again. Arnie N*shb*r never bought me a Pepsi, discussed
English 3-speeds with me on a slow December afternoon, or called me by my first name when I phoned
up to ask for some advice. Yeah, that's worth something to me.
