  1. Hi there everyone,

I have seen a few software packages around that are designed to help
you manage your workout. I was just wondering if anyone has had any
experiences, either good or bad, with using this type of software.

    Cheers.

Why do you need foolish toys to WO?

It would be good if there was a way to keep routines, results, notes,
progress etc better organsied. I am wondering if the software out there
does these things and does them well, or is pen and paper still the
best way to keep track of things?

I still don't understand the need. Do your routine, see the results in
    time.

  5. Dear Brad:

The Bill Rodgers is a newsgroup Troll/Idiot/Loser. He gets his jollies
ripping people that ask questions and dicking them around. If you plan on
participating here the best thing that you can do is KILLFILE "The Bill
Rodgers" and then you won't see any of his stupid, useless messages.

If you have Outlook Express you look at the top Navigation Bar and see a tab
for MESSAGE. Click that and a menu should pop-down. Then click BLOCK SENDER
when you have highlighted a message by "The Bill Rodgers" then all of his
messages will be deleted from the newsgroup (your dowload) and you won't
waste your time reading or responding to him anymore.

As far as your question is concerned, I bought something called "Athletic
Assistant" which was a pain in the ass. It cost $15. and came with a CD and
a key to use the software. The key and CD did not work, they tried to fix it
via internet, and then sent me a new one after about a month. The program
worked, but it was a pain in the ass to use, and it was not very easy to
customize. What really frosted me was that it had about three exercises per
body part, and it did not even have any way to input anything for biceps.
That just did not exist. Piece of [censored].

I tried some other program which you could use their demo on the website,
and it took more time than it was worth. Keep a Journal or Notebook and
write it all down. I see lots of people doing that at the gym. You can also
make your own graphs with spaces for exercises and then xerox them and fill
    them out.

  6. Hi there Fred, thanks a lot for your reply, I appreciate it.

I have had a look at a couple of demo's myself (can't remember which
ones) but they were both garbage. Far too difficult to use, far too
time consuming, and far too inflexible. Given your experiences it
sounds like that is the status quo for this type of software.

    Cheers,
    Brad

  7. Dear Brad,
The jerk below is disrupting this newsgroup with multiple
impersonations. I post ONLY from this ID, however he hopes you'll
killfile me too in your haste to rid yourself of this horrible
affliction. He posts from yahoo, hotmail, and other anonymous ID's,
while I only post from my comcast address. Killfile the anonymous
    ID's, leave this one.
    Thank you.

    <snip>

The problem with this sort of attitude is that it becomes impossible
to go back through your training journal and mine it for performance
data. I tend to treat myself as an experiment of one and my training
journal is a record of what I have done and what sort of results I was
able to achieve. Without some sort of journal it becomes far more
difficult to figure out what things actually worked.

So far my journal is nothing more than a home grown spreadsheet I have
cooked up. However, It does the job.

  11. Hi there Jason, thanks a lot for your reply.

The excel spreadsheet is a good idea. It really all comes down to data
management. I think that after you have accumulated a fair amount of
paper based journals it can become a pain in the [censored] wading through
all of the data to get the info you need. The question then is: Is it a
bigger pain in the [censored] to manage your workouts with a software package
    instead?

    Cheers.

  12. Funny thing about our cyberherpetic infection here is that not only does he
[censored] in the sandbox and smear it all over the place, he *still* wants people
to come in and play with him!

No matter how miserable one may be at home w/ the wife, kids, or whatever,
think about the suckers living or working with/near the herpes.

  13. Hi there,

Pretty new to this group myself, but I was looking for something
similar just a few months ago. I found this http://www.bodyfitdb.com/

It's basically a workout journal type database, that includes area's
for strength training, cardio, nutrition (though not as good as fit
day), and a few other things. I started using it and found it pretty
helpful for looking back at things. I tried the spreadsheet route but
never got it quite right. It's not free, but I think I paid like $29
bucks for it. Check it out, seems like a pretty decent program that's
    available for Mac or PC.

  14. Hi there Rotlex, thanks for the link. Do you find the software program
time consuming, or is it pretty easy to enter your results after a
    workout?

It took me a day or two to get into the swing of it, but once I had the
concept down, I found I can enter workout info in just a few minutes
really. Kind of nice as if you do similar workouts on different days,
once you build the routine, you can just duplicate it and modify it for
whatever may have changed on a particular day.

Makes it really quick\handy to use.
