Greetings,
I made the Escape from Alcatraz lottery and it's one of those careful-what-you-wish-for kind of
things. I'm very excited to do the race, but...swimming is my weakest event and I live inland, so
practicing in that chilly SF water isn't an option in my training.
I'm not really concerned about the distances - I have one Ironman under my belt and will be training
for another during the same time frame (Escape is 6/6, Ironman Couer d'Alene is 6/27), so I should
be okay there. Although I don't have a good place to train for ocean swimming, I can do open water
that's just as cold. I also have great terrain for hill training on the bike and run, although no
sand ladders...
Any tips for getting ready for this event - the swim in particular as it makes me pretty nervous -
or anything else are very much appreciated!
Cheers-- Sheri
