That was the vague bit of the trip :-). Martin David and I were the
only urw walkers. We met the other two in the mist at the cairn on the
940 metre contour. We were only ever a loose group and walked more
parallel than together from there to the summit.

Oh, something must be amiss then, that page isn't being logged by
WebStat for some reason. The icon isn't appearing either, even though

Paul, I know nothing about website design, or how you log access to a
site, but I was blocking webstat cookies. I have now accepted the
cookies - do you see anything different in your logs?

I now see three hits for that page. You didn't click on it three times
did you?

I altered the code (copied and pasted from another working page) and put
it online and it's definitely working now, I can see the icon which I
couldn't before (but it won't log my clicks because I've set it to
ignore my IP address).

I don't think that blocking cookies would affect it. It's javascript,
so it should work if you have that enabled, I don't think you need to
accept a cookie.

BTW, what do you think of the Tryfan pic? Remember what the original
scene looked like? I said I'd be modifying it a little... :-)

As for the TR, perhaps you could replace "the toilets" with "the
Tourist Information Centre". Apart from that, it'll do as a very
brief TR. Do you want a fuller one? It won't be tonight.

No, those are the exact same clouds you were looking at when I took the
pic. All I did was darken them a little... I told you that's what I
was going to do. The original scene lacked contrast, I just boosted it
somewhat.

Yes, been there done that - the "larger" pics are good but a bit
grainy - is this intentional?

Yep. All of the pics are small crops from much larger photos, some very
small. Some of the photos were badly underexposed (I blame the drink)
and very noisy (ISO 800), particularly the ones of David and Judith.

It all started with the shot of David Laight, which was the best I could
find, but the quality was horrible. The digital noise and posterisation
(lightening very dark areas) looked worse than conventional camera grain
so I added some artificial grain in Photoshop and that actually improved
it (the added grain tended to "smooth out" the blotchy noise).
Converting it to black and white gave it an antiquated look, reminiscent
of old photos of real expeditions (so I thought) and David has just the
kind of face and beard to make that believable IMO.

Anyway, rather than trying to bring bad shots up to the quality of the
good ones, I thought I'd do the reverse and degrade them all to a
similar level. Black and white gets rid of any colour balancing
problems and the grain gives them an arty look, making them look more
"nostalgic" than colour photos IMO, though some may not like the effect.

So ultimately it's any "arty" thing. Does anyone like this effect or
not? Don't be afraid to say if you don't. If you don't I won't do it
again.

I tried to pick the best shots of each individual.

Yes of course. It's in the TR thread somewhere isn't it? I'll add
individual TRs in due course, I still have plenty of photos to add, it's
only basic for now.

room for mine without deleting some other stuff, my Freeserve web space
is virtually used up. This is only temporary until I get a new web host
sorted out.

Probably best to provide links to other people's photo pages, especially
if there's a lot of them.
