I ordered new wheels for Igor last night (the back one was [censored] anyway and

An advantage of cycle-training children came up last night :-)
They led me to a wonderful 'traditional' sweet shop in Totton, packed
with shelves of jars.
I came away with bags of jelly babies, fruit allsorts, Bonds chocolate
balls and sherbert flying saucers, plus a bar of coconut ice.

When emptying the rackbag on returning home, SWMBO's eyes lit up as she
reminised her childhood of visiting the same shop when changing buses on
the way to school in the New Forest.

The shop is known as Mardy's in Eling Lane.

The last couple of packages I've had from them have had a tiny packet of
sweets hiding under a flap at the bottom of the box. Mind you, the
sweets they send out now (Xstals, IIRC), taste so revolting that they're
really not worth bothering with.

Still not as bad as parma violets, though. I actually know someone who
likes parma violets!

We have a branch of Sugar Boy where I live and very popular it is too.
I do have a couple of gripes about them, though - first is that they
are very expensive, and the second is that they only weigh out sweets
in "rounded" weight measures, eg 200g, 500g, 1kg(!), even though they
use electronic scales that would be perfectly capable of measuring out
eg 20p worth of sweets.

As a result, I don't go in there nearly as often as I might. I do like
looking at the window display, though.
