Subject: Major Dad

Saw a sad sight tonight at St. Eds. There was a group of kids hitting jumps and
there was an adult in the group; the father of at least one of the kids. None of
the kids or the father had helmets. I was going to say something but for once
kept quiet-that is until a lady standing close by spoke up. The lady told the
kids they should wear helmets because they could get hurt-then she showed them
her busted helmet-she split the helmet down the middle when she crashed on the
jump; her boyfriend was a paramedic, he walked her out of the park.

Next one of the kids hit the jump and sure enough crashed; he mashed his knee
and banged his head into the ground-with no helmet; if he would have hit a
rock-it might have killed him. The kid got hurt-that's when I turned to the dad
and told him the kids should have helmets. Major Dad got really mad-I thought he
was going to throw a stick; it's sad when parents don't protect their kids.

I will support your threads that support helmet advocacy. I believe that if
you are doing particularly dangerous stunts you should be wearing a helmet,
and if you are on concrete the Styrofoam helmets aren't enough. I think that
95% of the people on here would agree.

On the other hand just because a person is on a bike doesn't make him a
mountain biker. The irresponsibility of the adult in the group doesn't
reflect the majority of real mountain bikers.

I submit that on or about Sat, 20 Aug 2005 14:15:04 GMT, the person
known to the court as Mike Vandeman <[email protected]> made a
statement (<[email protected]> in Your
Honour's bundle) to the following effect:

>her busted helmet-she split the helmet down the middle when she crashed on the

LOL! You gotta love the way people use the fact their foam hats
failed to persuade others to wear them, so they can fail for them,
too!

I won't. I've read the evidence. Everyone should make up their own
mind based on their own reading of the evidence - it is not up to any
of us (especially Mike, who is a bigot with no good motives) to tell
others what to wear.

You are completely wrong on that. Mountain biking is INHERENTLY irresponsible in
its impacts on people and wildlife. Why don't you talk about responsible crack
use? Or bulldozer racing? Or child molestation? The list goes on. The majority
of real mountain bikers are indeed irresponsible idiots. In fact, I have yet to
meet even ONE honest, responsible mountain biker. It is a contradiction in
terms. An oxymoron, with the emphasis on "moron".

Hey, Mike...

I don't know you, and I've never responded to you before, but let me
give you an objective viewpoint here:

It's almost a certainty that you've never met an honest, responsible
mountain biker because self-respecting, honest, responsible, decent
people most likely prefer not to spend time with you.

Mike, you become more of an idiot every day, never thought you could be more
ridicules, but you prove me wrong on a daily basis.

What does this have to do with mt biking? Surely your PhD is being stretched
to the legal limit if you think this has any significance to mt biking. Go
post it as advocacy for helmet use.
NOBODY in the piece you posted was mt biking.
No wonder your "science" is irrelevant...

The threat of bodily harm to cyclists from MV is hereby noted.

Actually... the irresponsibility of ANYONE in the group from the piece MV
posted has NOTHING to do with mountain bikers because...
NONE OF THEM WERE MOUNTAIN BIKING!

Mikey, do you realize how dumb you look? I can only surmise your sole
reason(s) for your posts are:

a) You have a serious issue
b) You like to troll

Its interesting to note you cross post and not a sole from the hiking
side comes to your aid.

as I said mike ,u are bitter, angry, and unhappy. :(

it is sad. :(

Mikey doesn't really hate mountain bikers per se- he hates human beings.

Coming from a proven liar on the subject, your words are meaningless.
You are already a proven liar.(taken from another thread)
Me :please show your corroborated data that ALL mountain bikers are liars

MV: Show me where I ever said that, liar

Me:You appear to say it in every post you make starting 'All mountain
bikers'.
Do a google search for your name, you will find rather a lot

MV :So you can't show me even ONE case? That's what I thought. Because they
don't exist

Me:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rec.bicycles.soc/browse_frm/thread/a2de62b7
e3806492/d4c08e008ef80820?tvc=1&q=%22all+mountain+bikers%22+group:alt.mounta
in-bike&hl=en#d4c08e008ef80820

MV: Its misquoted

So apparently even google archives are against the man, I guess as MTBers
we control them too, to hide 'the truth'.Conspiracy theories, the last
bastion of the clinically insane.

He isnt a scientist, hes a hate filled bigot with a PROVEN record of lying
about bikers, nothing he says can be taken as anything other than another
lie.

I dunno. This debate about helmets has been chewed over and over ad
nauseum. And in theory anyway, a bike helmet saves you by destroying
itself - absorbs the impact and crumples like a car bumper. Splitting
down the middle: It's not a design failure - it's a feature! Whoo hoo!

I haven't really had a serious accident made less severe by a helmet.
Having said that, a helmet did collect the sharp 1" diameter end of a
broken branch as I ducked under overhanging foliage at speed once upon a
time. I'm pleased that the only pieces removed were from the helmet,
not my scalp. In that one instance, I can saying with 99% certainty
that wearing a helmet did save me from stitches and injury.
