Well, I haven't managed to get sponsorship for this year's 7/24[1][2],
and so if it's going to happen at all it's pretty much going to have to
happen with me as an individual promoter. I need to decide pretty
quickly on how much I'm going to charge for entry, and that really boils
down to 'what will the insurers charge/demand?'.
7/24 is not a race. It's a 24 hour event over a fixed course (the seven
7stanes tracks and the roads linking them up), and provided you finish
in 24 hours you're in. In this sense it's like an audax. The fact that
100 miles of the 290 mile total are off road is not audax-like, I admit,
but you still only have to average 12mph, so we're not doing this at
race pace. I need to find an insurance company who won't be utterly
fazed by this, and who won't make unreasonable demands for (e.g.) first
aid cover, which could put the cost of the event way up.
Can anyone suggest insurers I might approach? Does anyone know who Audax
UK insure with?
[1] Yet. There's still time, but it's beginning to look unlikely.
