I don't time myself up it, I can do without the pressure!
Me either, it's just I bought a new fandangled cycle computer that's wireless and does trip times. I usually reset it on a Monday morning. The one annoying thing is it's got these bloody "pace arrows" which show you whether you're riding above or below your average speed. I can't help myself and end up trying to go fast all the time. I've become a slave to the pace arrow!

Did it in one stop again today, even though I am feeling a bit grungy.
Not sure if grinding up it at 50rpm in granny gear really counts, but I'll take what I can get!

I keep mine on cadence, and just try and keep the revs up.
I note that flat terrain helps - I'm doing 2km more on the new commute, and taking 8-10 mins less than the old one. Cos the new one has all the hills rolled into one, and I don't count the resting time just riding time 🙂

Ooh, I quite fancy a cadence one, but they were all a bit rich for my blood (I am a tightarse riding my steel framed bike from when I was a kid after all - I have standards to maintain!)

I don't count resting time either. I don't actually take any rests on my commute, but I normally have to stop at the only traffic light. I take a different route home along the bike path because it's flat and I can go faster which is more fun than climbing.
