  1. of course - the net is swamped with everyone who is dying to get the
    easy fat loss dollar...

so - i can't find any reliable information online - and i'm turning to
real people in the hopes of some ideas.

so, hydroxycut, metabolife, ripped fuel, and on and on - all now can't
sell any form of ephedra. i would like to lose 20lbs (of fat) by late
May for a film shoot, I'm going to the gym almost daily for cardio and
have had a trainer give me a weight routine which i'm following on two
days a week, splitting muscle groups.

I'm 6'1", and roughly 190lbs (every scale is different, but i range
    between 185-195 on them)

i take in around 1700calories a day, though i sometimes end up with
less as i may miss one of my 6 meals - and i target 195g of protein a
day. when i started this a month ago, i was at 195lbs (by the scale at
the gym) and the trainer told me that the #1 mistake people make in
training is not getting enough protein, and that i needed a gram of
protein for every pound i weighed.

basically, i'm out of shape - the trainer's little machine put me at
19.8% body fat, resting heart rate of 61bpm, systolic 119, diastolic
74, and my flexibility was a sad sad ZERO.

so, i'm working on it -- i eat well, i stretch, i lift, i alternate
cardio by his plan, etc and so on - since new years eve i've had no
drinking, no smoking, no junk food, no fast food - but in the end i
realize that the primary problem with my appearance is the fat around
my midsection, and my bulgy waistline.

i do situps and crunches and other core training things - and i'm
pondering yoga and pilates - but lets face it, some extra fat burning
supplements would help... and i can remember losing some lbs with
hydroxycut years ago - but now there's no ephedra! i'm not familiar
with what 'stacking' is, or what medications have a weight loss side
effect, and i'm not about steroids - but i'd like to see what my
options are for 'fat burning' supplements during this new era.

so - anyone have some experience with current options or others? what
have you tried? more than one type? what regimen? are these things i
can get at my local grocery store? any ideas or info will help -
    thanks.

Check out Lyle's Rapid Fat Loss Diet book.

    www.bodyrecomposition.

It was written for exactly what you want. He talks about using the EC
    stack, too.

  3. Do you really think you need to be taking some drug in order to lose
    weight and get fit?

You need to lift weights and add some muscle. Given your height,
weight, and bodyfat percentage, you are woefully lacking in that
category. Situps, crunches, yoga, and pilates won't do diddlyshit for
    changing your body composition.

You can get pharmaceutical ephedrine at the drugstore or from many
on-line sellers; it better than herbal ephedra, anyway. But that will
just help you become skinny and weak. You need to concentrate a lot
more on resistance training than you are on dietary supplements.

Get a few opinions on this subject. The USRDA for an adult male is
about 65-70 grams of protein per day - while more likely won't hurt you,
you're probably fine with 1 gram per kilogram of bodyweight, which is
less than half what you're now targeting. 95 grams per day instead of
195 grams per day means 400 calories you can target to other things like
healthy fats in your diet. The #1 mistake people make is simply not
balancing calories in with energy expended - if you aren't losing
    weight, start working out more.

Lift as heavy as you can as often as you can while remaining as fresh as
you can - it's as simple as that. You don't need yoga, pilates, etc.
You need to put some iron on the bar and move it, and you'll do best
with big compound movements like the deadlift or squat.

    Just my opinion.

  8. Fugeddaboudit. You're not overweight. Get yourself to an hour a day workout
by the end of March and then start adding strength training. Don't take

  9. first - thanks to all of you for your replies, and so fast (on
    Superbowl Sunday of all days)

ok, in a matter of hours the general consensus is that i should avoid
all these pills that 'help' burn more fat... and simply hit the gym
more. more cardio, more weight, etc.

so let me ask all of you this - -

and let me say that i'm not looking for some bs instant fix, but i
don't want to waste time either --- i see guys at the gym who can move
all kinds of weight but are still (like me) carrying a belly around.

what is going to help me burn this belly? I feel like I'm living off
salads, lean turkey on whole grain wheat, water, and protein bars. I
say this as if to say, "i think i am eating the right thing" and I'm
doing the cardio, and I'm hitting the weight...

am i missing something? while i realize that i can't focus fat loss,
what can i do to target fat? just 'more' of the above? this belly (as
I'm sure with many) is my big problem and while so many of the women i
know (who don't work out) keep telling me to do 1000 crunches a day, i
can't help but think they don't have the experience to talk about my 34
    year old gut.

and, when you say i'm 'woefully lacking' in muscle - should i target
muscle growth in any specific area?

    thanks again all,

    richard

They have no idea what they're talking about. You cannot spot-reduce
fat. You can have great rectus abdominus muscles, but they won't show
if they're covered with fat. You may have a lot of visceral fat, and
that may be last to go in reducing fat, but no amount of abdominal
    exercises will change that.

Yes. Absolutely. Everywhere else: legs, chest, back, and arms.
You'll be surprised what that does. And don't neglect lifting with
your legs by rationalizing, "Oh, but I do cardio!" It's not the same.

Bench Press, squats and dead-lifts. Those basic exercises will build
the larger muscles that demand a lot of calories to repair and maintain.
Your weight may not decrease quickly but your body composition will.

    Go to http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html .
You didn't mention your age but even if you were 40 years old and had a
100% sedentary lifestyle you would need at 1900 calories a day or so
just to maintain your weight. Ok, so if you consume 1700 calories a day
usually you only have a caloric deficit of 200 calories. That means
you'd burn 1 lb of fat in about 17 days or about 2 lbs a months. That is
pretty slow weight loss and not the kind that you see all that much.
Plus with sufficient "cheating" you'd be negating what little weight
    loss you'd be getting.
If I were you I'd eat at maintenance, about 1900 calories a day(but go
to the link above and figure it out exactly!, and get a caloric deficit
of about 500-1000 calories a day through cardio.
