Environmentally Friendly Bike Mower...

I see its a ladies bike, the wife will just love that... 🙄

Am I the only one dorky enough that thinks that if this idea was improved (i.e. lighter frame, maybe some carbon bling) that I would actually consider it? Boy, the neighbors already think I'm a bike dork, a contraption like that would cement that opinion!

It is funny you mention that. I posted that right before going to bed, and as I was drifting off to sleep I began to wonder if anyone actually makes a pedal riding mower and if not, how hard would it be to build one. I have no idea how fast the blades spin on a regular mower, but I will assume it is a direct ratio with the engine so it wouldn't be too hard to make something you could pedal at speeds of 1-4mph with a functional mower blade spinning at 1000-4000 RPM. Now the deck width would probably need to be about the same as your average push mower, because it will be hard to maintain more than about 1/2HP but what fun that would be. It would appeal to many different folks:
Racer- You could spend an hour mowing your lawn and train at the same time.
Environmentalist - No pollution, no batteries to dump in a landfill, it truly is green
Rednecks- less dependency on foreign oil, your mower runs on Old Milwaukee's
Well intentioned husbands- the perfect anniversery present, she can drop those unsightly pounds AND mow the lawn

I think it's cool! I'd get one. In fact, a kids version would allow my boy to make $$ mowing the neighbors lawns - and mine!

The mower shown is an old fashioned "reel" mower. New ones can be bought for less than $100, and they work fairly well at normal walking speed.

Lighter wheel(set), selle saddle, carbon seatpost, drop handlebars, water bottle rack (2) for the hot days, triple crankset (that's for when you don't mow for a week or so and it gets too high. Wait a minute....carbon blades...can you sharpen carbon? SAG support for those will bigger lawns.

I believe it is still possible to get hand propelled lawn mowers which operate from a wheel at the side and are geared to spin much faster than you push them. Can only think that you would need a pretty impressive mud-guard to prevent grass clippings getting in your face. Not sure of the turning circle either, woul need a pretty long lawn to get worthwhile speeds up...

I've only got a tiny strip of grass at the rear of my house. Paved patio makes much better surface for dropping nuts and bolts on than grass.
