  1. Personally, I prefer gel because it’s easy to consume and not messy as bar.

Which one would you like better, gel or bar and what brand and taste?

  2. For shorter races, gels because they go down easier and don't stick around in your mouth.

For longer stuff, a powerbar, because it's more solid and more satisfying (with the occasional gel if you feel so inclined)

Try honey, I've seen some tests where basically the same boost in performance was gained from honey as from gels.

  3. I mostly use bars, I use both Power Bar's and Clif bar's just for a change in taste. I use gels too but find they are not as satisfying and only use it for quick energy.

  4. Bar......that gel stuff is so damn sticky and makes a mess in my jersey pockets....(I put the empty package in my pocket rather than throw it on the ground.)

Reminds me of flavored snot to be honest.......

  5. Gel while on race (Power Gel), bar if I'm looking for fast recovery after a 120+ Kms. ride (Harvest Power Bar)

  6. The poll needs a "both" option.

    Agreed...

  8. I normally prefer GU- high caffiene and it tastes like cake frosting🙂

However I've recently tried Gulp-n-Go which is pretty good as well.
I also tried a bar on my last big ride (they were on sale for a buck each at the grocery store). It was an Odwalla bar. Tasty and easy to eat. Power bars on the other hand can be used as shoe leather, or as filler in flak vests.

I prefer the gels as well. I usually get PowerGel, by PowerBar, in raspberry flavor.

If you are in a long race, both, just for your guts sake. Or better, substitute dried bananas for the bar.

If its after a race you don't need either. Just eat a high carb meal.

  11. chewing on an energy bar takes more energy out of you than it actually gives you...🙄

  12. hammer gel is effective and economical, i buy by the jug and use hammer flaks.
lot of flavors to, and mixed flavors are to taste.
i am on a team sponsored by hammer gel/e-caps and if you use my customer number:
    customer#40630
you get 15% off your order.
