it does make cents (and $ too)
    i doesn't make sense

I could live off of what the Atkins people throw away.

  3. I don't think you want to train for a marathon on Atkins. It would be
like trying to drive 1,000 miles on one tank of gas. And anyway,
what's the point? If you're training for a marathon, you're going to
lose weight regardless of your diet. I lose about 20 lbs. in marathon
training, even while eating like a horse.

I believe that "atkins" and "energy" constitutes an oxymoron.

I've been on Atkins for the last 18 months, loosing a total of 40
pounds. I've been a runner for 25 years, I'm a 37 YO male. My starting
weight was 215 pounds. The Atkins WOE is for loosing weight, not for
heavy training. While I was out for a severe plantar problem, I could
eat no more than 100g of carbs per day and not gain weight. I started
up running again, and was mostly OK. I could do 2 hour runs in the
mountains, and a tempo run during the week. As long as I kept my
training below about 80% of max HR, I was OK. Things started changing
when I started track work for an upcoming half - America's Finest
    City.

I just got Chris Carmichael's Book - Food for Fitness. Over the last
few weeks, I've been increasing the number of carbs to about 300g per
day. These are high quality carbs from whole grains and
    fruit/vegetables. I can honestly say I didn't realize just how awful I
was feeling! I always struggled during the last set of track work, and
felt lousy the day after. My training program was starting to unravel.
I wasn't feeling very good, started having a bad attitude towards
running. This by definition is not low carb, but I consider it right
carb. I stay away from highly processed foods and eat as high of
quality of carbs I can get my hands on.

Loosing weight helps running obviously, but I wouldn't try training
for a marathon and loosing weight at the same time. If you need to
loose weight, do that first, then start up training. You can do some
training while trying to loose weight, just don't expect too much from
running very hard or far. Slow jogging would be OK.

Once you start looking at food as fuel for training, things start to
    make sense. Good luck!

Loose weight is probably not a good thing. I would suggest you
lose some weight in order for your remaining body fat to hopefully
not remain in a loose condition as you so describe.
