Barbara Hall, Ontario's Human Rights chief commissioner, said she
didn't have the authority to deal with Steyn and Maclean's, but that
she found his article "xenophobic," "destructive," and "Islmophobic."

There's an unbiased adjudicator!

Apologists who should know better, claim there must be limits on free
speech. Oh? Who says so? Who should judge what is acceptable? The way
things are now, a human rights tribunal is the arbiter of what is, and
what isn't, permissable to say.

Saying what is permissible is not free speech. Those who claim there
must be limits to free speech have not thought it out. Yelling "fire"
in a crowded theatre is not free speech, but incitement to panic. We
have libel laws that curb outrageous accusations, and laws against
sedition, intimidation and threatening.

Speaking hurtful opinions that make people or groups uncomfortable, is
a hazard of a free society -- and preferable to having free speech
stifled

Well, more crimes of writing true but offensive things.

Far be it from me to say that the Canadian HRCs (the one Mark Steyn got
pulled in front of was the BC Human Rights Commission, because the
Ontario one decided they didn't have jurisdiction; hello
venue-shopping!) aren't completely evil, but a true Orwellian
Thoughtcrime was about holding opinions, even unpublished ones.

But as far as I can tell, we're well into an argument here over whether
the BCHRC is totalitarian _enough_ to describe its acts as Orwellian,
rather than merely way outside the boundaries of sense.

M. Crockett would likely describe those involved as "wankerz," and
really, I can't think of a better punishment for those running these
HRCs than public shame.

Meanwhile, though, they're just ruining peoples lives in the name of
political correctness, and essentially outlawing impolitic opinions.

Gonna be a horrible parent and run it for my H.S. freshman since he's
never heard it. Loved Def Comedy Jam when it first started on tv.
Great new stuff back then. Kids in the Hall, Upright Citizens Brigade,
Carlos Mencia, great stuff but Carlin was one of a kind, as was Pryor.
Dennis Miller seems to think he can be a right wing version of Carlin
but he couldn't even wash, let alone carry Carlin's jock, or well used
chamois.
