Of course I'm interested, it looks like it'll be an interesting race
with unusual characteristics which ought to see some lesser-known riders
pull off courageous stunts. I want to see a full start list before I
name my favorite for the overall.

Now that I've seen it: VDB or de Peet

Maybe you should be. There's an Amstel Gold race and LBL like stage in
    it. Those stages seem interesting.

Winner of the prologue: Rik Verbrugghe. The last hour it started
raining so guys like Dekker I+II and Julich could not give it all.

As opposed to all the other Pro Tour races, which are natural,
    prehistoric, geologic features?

Hein was right, cyclists just aren't interested in change or
    innovation.

The enecotour was only created to give Belgium and Holland a few
Protour race days more. Including the Tour of Belgium and the Tour of
the Netherlands which existed since 1908 and 1948, was out of the
question. No, it was more important to have a stupid Tour of Poland in
the ProTour and therefor this EnecoTour was created as an emergency
    solution.

Actually the Eneco Tour already existed, but not in the current form. It was
expanded to accomodate the protour, so it's not a purely Dutch event
    anymore.

Maybe he didn't actually say that, but I think it was implied. For the
foreigners, yes it's a fusion of the Ronde van Belgie and Ronde van
Nederland and Eneco is the sponsor.

But in spite of that the Ronde van België still exists as a separate tour.
So for most purposes, the Eneco tour was just made more international to
suit the protour. Ofcourse it's more than just a bigger Ronde van Nederland,
but neither can it justifiably be called a newly created event, like the TTT
in Eindhoven. For the latter the 'artificial' label might actually have some
justification. But in the case of the Eneco tour, it doesn't.

I have a chance to be road-side for the 4th stage (Landgraaf to
Verviers) this Sunday. If anyone knows the route well, could they
suggest a good climb to view? From what I can tell of the parcours on
the website (http://www.enecotour.com), there should be a couple of
climbs in the last 30km between Spa and Verviers, though elevations not
    shown ... any other ideas?

    Cheers, Rob.

If want to see the peloton stretched out after a long(ish) climb, stand
near the top of the Rosier. If you want to see the decisive break, stand
on the last significant climb, which appears to be the Côte de Surister in
Jalhay. At 18 km from the line, it's still a bit far, though. From
    http://home.iae.nl/users/vdmark/cols/colblui.htm :

    height 375 m
    climb 115 m
    length 2200 m
    avg % 5.23
    max % 10.00

Try the Haute Levee as the riders exit Stavelot. The climb starts less than
500 m from the village's cobblestoned center (plenty of bakeries and cafes)
and has a brutal first 900 m or so (10+%).

After the riders go past, walk through the village and up the Stockeu to the
    Merckx monument.

  15. Just out of curiosity Kenny - do you suppose that the Vuelta occurred

You don't have to take "artificially" that narrow. I just meant by it
that this Eneco tour was a quick emergency solution to enter the
Protour, to live by the Heins's rules.

I think the Credit Lyonnais Tour came around more naturally.

He was in a long early breakaway today. Good on him - even though it
ultimately made him lose 16 minutes and throw any GC aspirations out the
window, that's just what he needed to do after such a long break from
    racing.
