  1. Somebody ought to teach this moron how to pronounce words
before he goes on TV and makes a fool of himself.

Today he's trying to pronounce kaffir (lime leaves),
    as Kye-fer.

I can begin to count how many times I've heard him mis-
    pronounce words.

He's also using the tough part of the lemongrass as well,
even after he warned people that it's really fibrous.

    <sigh>

He was born and raised in eastern Massachusetts, in a
community of first and second generation immigrants,
where people naturally "Tawk funny." Some of us got over
    it. He hasn't.

This isn't a accent thang, though. He just doesn't know how
to pronounce common culinary words. He pronounces plenty of
other words correctly, that have the same sounds.

Why don't the technical producers rehearse the big words
with him? It happens constantly. or does he do this on
porpoise because he knows his audience is do clueless
    and gullible?

That one I can understand, though an alleged profession
    should know better.

He certainly does a number on the English language. As
if his pronunciation is not bad enough, his grammar is
    even worse.

As long as he can pronounce "BAM" correctly, he can afford
to pronounce everything else pretty much any way he damned
    well pleases.

He makes several MILLION dollars a year pronouncing things

    Let me repeat; MILLIONS.

Anyone here in rfc doing better?

He's a friggin' Chef not an English Professor! It's his

No. I have to admit that I'm only up to a couple of million
a year pronouncing things the way *I* want.

If your job is teaching the public your profession, it's
your responsibility to do it properly.

If he realty was competent in his profession, he'd *know*
that he's not pronouncing these words correctly.

How does pronouncing a dish incorrectly prevent someone from

Well admittedly I don't have 50 young chefs working behind

They go hand in hand. If you can't see the correlation, then
I don't have the patience to explain it to you.

His job isn't teaching. His job is to bring people to the
    conclusion that
they too can cook. I know people like you have a problem
    with the masses
being able to do what you hold yourself so highly for...but
    the fact is,
alot of people are afraid of cooking when they don't need to
    be. His job is
also to entertain...which his banking account can attest to
    his prowess in.

In other words, what you're saying is "I don't have an
intelligent reply, so I'll fluff it and hope you don't
    notice".

You think he makes 3+ million a year doing his shows? I
think you're way off. He's not a movie star, and hardly in
demand by any other networks. Look at his sitcom, for
example, and his very short-lived TV commercial for
    toothpaste (lasted 3 weeks).
