  1. Last night, I melted some butter in a small frying pan, added some pecans
(I don't care for walnuts), and mixed thoroughly so the pecans were coated
with butter. Then, just a sprinkle each of Splenda and cinnamon, a quick
stir to coat the pecans again, and I had a fast low-carb snack.

What low-carb foods do you eat when you're having severe carb cravings? Or
do you handle the cravings in a different way, (drink more water, take a
    walk)?

    Thanks,
    Carol

Yum! That sounds good. Pecans are my favorite nuts.

Emergency-type snacks? A handful of nuts or a chunk of cheese,
usually. I don't often have cravings as such, but if I do, I'll treat
myself to a few Vienna sausages and chug a bunch of water. Vienna
sausages usually kill any cravings I might have.

  4. Try eating a pound of cabbage next time, it also helps. Tomatoes are

Wow! I'd probably be farting all night, but I do love fried cabbage and
    cole slaw.

I wish tomatoes were on Dr. B's plan. He allows one slice on a salad from
    time to time.

Calories for the day permitting, I'll have a handful of
almonds or walnuts. Calories not permitting, a glass of
water, a walk, or perhaps some other kind activity suggested
    by SO ; )

I'll tell you what I do. Brush my teeth and rinse with Listerine. That'll
kill ANY cravings related to the mouth and eating. Yuck!

    But, it works.

  10. I usually brush my teeth just shortly after eating dinner. Keeps me from
wanting to snack in the evening. Don't want to have to brush all over
    again.

It seems to be the consensus that nuts, cheese, and Listerine are the cures
for carb cravings. <G> I have cheese and nuts at home, and just bought a
liter and a half of generic citrus mouthwash for everyday use, as well as
    carb emergencies.

  13. If I want to freak out on junk food, I'm gonna get me a bag of peanut M&Ms.
Have done it a time or two over the past several months, in fact.

Sure, there are consequences, and I know that. I'm losing weight, but I'm
also living my life just about the way that I want to.

Low-carb is a lifestyle, and it's the way that I have gone. But when I want
a treat, I'm going there, too.

Okay, next time you come to our house, we'll have a dish of peanut, instead
of plain M&Ms for your crunching pleasure.

And you can teach us about real Texas Barbecue (that is where you are,
isn't it?). S'pose a lesson in Texas Red is imperative, as well. If
you're from somewhere else, we'll just have to wing it.

And I'll make you a genuine Minnesota hotdish, using only the finest
low-carb pasta. Alas, the Jell-O won't be in a mold.

Carol, I would be honored to visit you and your husband anytime. And you
don't need to provide me with sugar products, I'll do that on my own
whenever I want. Which isn't often.

I'll do for you the best damn barbecue you've ever had. Pat, JC, and I know
about barbecues (especially Pat, she mentioned once stuff about smoking
brisket that I forgot to mention, and she was so durn RIGHT that I knew that
she knew what she was talking about!)

Trust us. We in Texas know how to do beef.

Okay, we'll need at least 3 months of lead time to clean the house. <G>
You should probably come up during the summer months, when it's got to be
    cooler here than in Texas.

You're not bringing JC with you, are you? <Damsel narrows her eyes
suspiciously> Pat, when you read this, will you please raise your hand,
so I know which Pat Jim's talking about? I get confused easily.

I have a friend in Ohio who is always bragging about her husband's smoked
brisket (made on a Kamado, no less), but do you think we get any of it?
    Noooooooo!

We have an R2D2 unit by Coleman, an old Arkla gas grill (for quickie
grilling only, of course), and a weird smoker that doesn't have a separate
fire box. You just heat one side, and put your food on the other.

Crash makes kick-ass smoked salmon. It uses a honey cure, but I can't
imagine that soaking fish for a couple hours in a solution that's partially
honey can do much damage. It's the crackers that are under the salmon that
you have to worry about. ;-)

been shown to have some positive effects on health, then there's some cocoa
butter and regular butter, Atkins is a high fat diet so these are good
things. Sounds like the ideal diet food to me.
