products: http://www.roadid.com/default.asp - especially the shoe-tags
and wrist bands.

There's always MedicAlert, too. Been around a long time, EMTs know to
look for them, etc.

A cel-phone with a phone book address of "home" combined with a phone number
scrawled with a Sharpie inside the helmet.

My son is is road racer, I learned when he was 14 he needed a way to call me
if things got bad (in whatever way) 30 miles from home. That is the reason
he has a cel-phone. Or at least the reason I got it for him.

I have had to rescue him exactly twice in 5 years (Broken spokes.) I think
he rides at least 5000 miles a year...you do the math, US National caliber
rider...nearly world caliber....he rides a lot. Twice in 5 years.

It seems to me that if you wreck and are so injured as to be comatose
(unlikely.) People will look pretty hard to find who to contact.

That should certainly be good enough, but a recent trend is to have an
entry in your phone book called "ICE" (in case of emergency).

I've also got my actual name on the little cell phone screen in case it
helps.

Bracelets can't be a bad thing, especially if you have drug allergies.

I've got two bikes, so I ordered two velcro bracelet things from Road
I.D. I wore one of them for a while, then wrapped one around each top
tube. Mine have a few phone numbers on them and I think you can put
about a half dozen lines of data. I can see how they might come in
handy some other times when I am traveling. One's an ankle bracelet and
the other is a wrist band. They have reflective fabric woven into the
things.

1. I always carry my wallet with info in it. As I sometimes ride from
trailheads, and I recently had my car broken into and my wife's purse,
ID, credit cards etc., all stolen, I am unconfortable not having my
wallet with me. And, sometimes I do errands while bicycling requiring
money and credit cards and ID, etc.

2. When I needed it recently, I kept an "Emergency Medical Card" in my
wallet, but I no longer need it.

3. I have 4 ICE (In Case of Emergency) entries in my cell phone
directory for my wife, son and relatives.

I have various forms of ID on me.

There's my name actually on my bike via a decal. Then I have my mobile phone
with me. Plus I carry my CTC membership card and my local cycling club
membership card. I also wear a dog-tag with name, address, phone number &
blood group on it. So if I forget one form of ID, I've usually got another
with me.

EMTs have been trained for a long time to search for a medical ID piece
of jewelry (around the neck or wrist). I know at American Medical ID
you can have it personally engraved with whatever information you want
to share; phone numbers, conditions, allergies, contacts...anything.
I think if you're looking for something to be noticed this is the best
way to go.

My fredly orange vest has a place to inscribe this. I wear that vest for the
rainy months of the year. God forbid the information should be needed in the
summer, when I don't.

On my bibs for events, inside which you are supposed to put your emergency
info, I always add, "organ donor". Sort of grisly, but what the heck.

I taped a piece of paper w/ my brother's name/number on the back of my
driver's license. I carry that, a dollar or two, plus my housekeys in
a ziplock bag which I put in my jersey pocket.

I haven't seen this lately, but helmets used to come with stickers for
contact info, blood type, medications, etc. This was standard practice
for auto/motorcycle racing, and for awhile, bike helmets too. At least
the stickers came with the helmets -- I don't know how many people
actually used them. Are EMTs still trained to look for this sticker?

It seems like a good idea, because it's right in front of rescue workers.
They don't have to dig through pockets and bags for it. Anyway, I haven't
seen it in awhile, and I wonder what happened with it.

I carry a small "runner's wallet" with ID info, $$, and my key.

I am a bit surprised that no one has responded that there is no need
to carry emergency info as cycling is so safe that you will never need
it. So, carrying such info just feeds the fire of those trying to
depict cycling as dangerous ;-)

I always carry my driver's license and cell phone. I also have a decal on
my bike that has an emergency number to reach park rangers since most of my
riding is done on trails in our county.
