  1. ive been using the ellypical machines to "run" because my legs are
mssed up from years of Irish Dancing, and those machines are so
    gentle...
and I havent gone out for an actual run lately, so im wondering how
running on an ellpyical compares to real running.

If i can do 8 miles on that, can I go out and run 8 miles?

Go outside and run. Care to elaborate on "Irish Dancing?"

    Aye lassie,
Aerobically you can do 8 miles, but your leg muscles need REAL
running to be able to do real running.

Not necessarily. They require the use of different muscle groups. But
if you're getting the results you desire on the elliptical machine, why
    do you want to run?
