  1. What is the best way to eat a hard shell taco (like the crispy one
from Taco Bell, for example)? Should one start from an end, from the
middle, between the end and middle, ...? I.e., what's the best way to
proceed to avoid making a mess?

Go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. Ask yourself "When did I become
such an idiot that I cannot figure out how to eat a taco?"

    Seriously.

I don't know if there *is* a best way. LOL. I make my own crispy shells
when I want a hard shell taco and I always end up a mess. I'd say, start at
a corner, then bite the other corner, working your way to the middle. Well,
that's what I do, and, like I said, I still end up with a guacamole, taco
sauce, sour cream, greasy mess on my hands and lap. I also always ruin one
of my favorite shirts. :~) Good luck!

Go to your local Taco Bell and buy 3 tacos. With the first taco, start
eating it from one end and move to the other end. With the second
taco, start in the middle on the open side of the taco and eat toward
each end. With the third taco, start in the middle of the folded side
and move to the outer edges. When you're all done, ask yourself which
was the most fun to do. That's the way you should eat them. :/ Eating
a taco is a very personal thing, IMHO. 🙂

The way that makes the biggest mess.

Start from the end. And if it's a fast food one, keep it partially wrapped
    in the paper.

Since the meat is on the bottom, you begin by biting off one bottom end to
more or less square up that end.

Then, at a convenient angle, starting at the bottom again, bite in and then
nibble up, munching some of the toppings. Then repeat as necessary, finally
finishing up with the last bottom bite of the taco (commonly referred to as
    "the best bite"😉.

When needed, cover the opposite end's opening with a finger to prevent
    contents from shifting.

    Or not! 😉

In a perfect world one would stuff the entire shell in the mouth at once
avoiding the mess. OTOH I usually start from an end and enjoy all the
    mess.

I don't eat fast food tacos, but when I have them in restaurants or at
home, I have an order of soft tortillas on the side and I wrap a taco
in a soft tortilla. Always done that. No mess. BTW, Taco Bell doesn't
have crispy tacos. They have soggy tacos, soaked with grease.

Lots of Taco Bell ingredients like there beef slime are dehydrated. Just
add water. It's not just grease.

Here's my typical home soft taco spread (old photo).

A little of everything per taco. I roll them up like mini burritos so I can
eat them vertically, tipping in a few drops of Cholula hot sauce for each
    bite.

put it in a folded soft tortilla and eat from one end - never from the
    middle

We're together on the Cholula. Recently our Publix had it buy one get
one free and I have 8 bottles (all they had left) in my pantry. Worlds
    above Tobasco.

See Kili's answer. There is NO best way.

Lean over your plate and hope for the best. (Pray it doesn't crack
down the middle on first bite) Tacos are not a food to nibble. Open
your mouth wide and shove as much instide as you can manage.

I don't do hotsauce (as most of you know), but my husband eats it by the
gallon - okay, that's an exaggeration. Anyhow, he doesn't care for the
taste of Tobasco because he claims it's too vinegary. I wouldn't know. In
any case, I'm sure Tobasco has its place, but DH favorite is Melinda's
XXXX - although we do have Cholula, too. :~)

If you have already pondered your own stupidity, you're one up on some
    of the folks here.

Funny, but fast food tacos are nearly always either those folded
crispy corn tortillas, or soft flour tortillas. Every time I've
gotten a taco at a real Mexican/Guatemalan/etc. place, it has always
been two 6" soft corn tortillas with stuff on top.

Great idea. Next time I go to the take out window at Taco Bell I will
ask them to wrap the hard Taco with a soft tortilla. But I may have
    to bring my own tortilla.

Cholula is too vinegary too, though I like it occasionally on fried
chicken. As soon as my nephew posts his salsa recipe, I'll put up a
    link.
I do know it has oven broiled seeded chiles, tomatillos, tomatoes,
salt, and sometimes a bit of garlic. It all goes into the blender.
He'll sometimes add some of the chile seeds and re-blend if it turns
out not hot enough. No vinegar, onion or cilantro, though you can add
minced raw onion or cilantro afterward to the stuff in your OWN bowl
    (not the community bowl).
