If eating the boxed kind is puttin' on airs, I'm kinda scared of what is common. We lived on the boxed kind in college, it was available for 15 to 19 cents a box back in the late 60's.

I only saw the stuff once while growing up, at someone else's house. My mother made hers from macaroni and velveeta. There was a lot of stuff I never saw while growing up.

I only saw the stuff once while growing up, at someone else's house. My mother made hers from macaroni and velveeta. There was a lot of stuff I never saw while growing up.
I never saw Velveeta growing up. I still fear it. My mom never had peanut butter until she was married and my dad never ate food that was in a can. My grandmother said it was for dogs (and they were poor, not snooty)
I never had sour cream or cream cheese until i was in college. I never tried mustard until I was pregnant and for some reason starting craving weird stuff.

I never saw butter when I was a kid, either. I thought I did because everyone called it butter, but it wasn't. My aunt made fun of my cousin's fiancé because they sent him to the store to get some and he came back with real butter. When she told us about that was the first time I knew it wasn't the real thing.

Where I came from using the kind in the box was considered being fancy and putting on airs.
Thats odd.. it costs like 25cents a box.. my moms recipe was a bit more costly then that.. though it was cheap enough that we had it ALL the time.

My moms recipe involves a good portion of a gallon of milk.. lol 1/4 to 1/2 gallon depending on the size pan. We always use margerine.

what the f* were you guys eating? ( i was totally being sarcastic about the butter thing!!) Hope it wasn't margarine. In my house that was considered an evil plot by the government to make people fat and sick! It was forbidden - and *ew* didn't want it anyway!!
