As to whether it works, I'm not sure where the extra energy is coming from to suddenly generate 7-10% more power. 🙄

At best, it does nothing at all. At worst, if there actually is some kind of real play in the hub, I would bet it actually decreases the overall efficiency of the system by introducing more sources for friction losses.

Yet another energy storage system touted as an power savings device.
The UCI is real clear about mechanical energy storage devices in cycling races and they're illegal regardless of what this hub vendor claims.
But if you want legal energy storage ride heavier rims, funny that doesn't result in faster times nor power savings. As Alex points out you need roughly high school physics to see the flaws in this kind of snake oil. But that doesn't stop folks from making the claims with spring loaded weights sliding up and down spokes or springs inside hubs.

I don't believe the power gain claim at all. But, if a 10% power gain were achieved, it would lead to a ~10 speed gain on a very steep hill.
Nawww, it doesn't store energy, it reduces backlash during the pedal stroke. Since the UCI regs don't disallow backlash-reducing devices then it should be legal. Thank goodness someone has finally invented a way to get that nasty power-robbing backlash out of my pedal stroke. 😉
The thing that gets me is that the marketing talks about the hub helping to overcome the pedal dead-spot by re-distributing the peak force into that portion of the stroke. However, the graph of thrust vs. pedal angle shows identical thrust in the dead spot between the conventional and e-hub, while the e-hub's peak thrust is actually much higher than conventional. 😕
