I believe that they are no longer in production - so it's cycle rally searching or you can have mine if you pay for delivery - it is probably in a junk box somewhere...

i've been doing exactly that & getting frustrated. i can't believe nobody has this dynamo. i have 2 exact sets on my bike for more brightness that's why i want the exact same one for a match. if the one you have is the exact same & the bearings are not worn, i will buy it off of you. they make a new dynamo labeled "basta" which is the new version & similar which i could buy, but i'll have to get 2 of them.

Where in the world are you? (I am in the UK) You are quite welcome to the old Union one for nothing if I can find it. I had heard that the Basta versions were not very good as well as noisy. Personally I prefer the old Union 8601 bottom bracket dynamo I have on one bike and the Schmidt hub dynamo I have on another. The only reliable sidewall generator I have used is the AXA.

i'm in the u.s. i usually buy from st. john's street cycles in the uk & they ship things mail & it's pretty cheap, so i'm not concerned about the shipping cost. is your dynamo the exact same as the one in my picture? the only reason i'm replacing it is the bearings have excessive wear, but the dynamo still works very good. i hate to replace it because it's been so reliable over the years. it must have thousands of miles on it by now. union really builds good dynamos. i would not buy anything else. i'll give you something for it if you want. i want a perfect match because i have another identical dynamo on the same bike & it would look stupid to have 2 different dynamos on ther same bike i think. if yours is the identical same, hold the dynamo in your hand & try to wiggle the pulley. if there is play, then your dynamo is also worn, & it would be not worth the effort to ship it, as that's the same reason i'm looking for another one....

when you say the new basta dynamos are noisy, are you referring to this one: bicycleworkshop.co.ukproducts.phpOpen ↗ all bottle dynamos make some noise. the majority of it being a high pitched whine from the pulley/tire contact which i actually like. if they make bearing noise from the get go, then that's a quality problem & i would not buy anything from that company. the dynamo in my picture when new just made a little whine from the tire friction which is normal. the bearing noise started many years/miles later. the basta dynamos are still produced by union which now sells under several different brand names. i considered a bottom bracket set-up, but i think it would increase tire wear, & the debris on the road would be a problem with that setup. i would love to have a dynohub, but that would require wheel rebuilding. also, i already have 2 bottles on the bike & if i removed them, the frame would be marred in that area. the 2 light set-ups work good together especially in the country where there is no street lights. i'm not worried about drag--does not affect me. i hope you find your dynamo & it is the same as mine...

their just selling the dynamo regulator there--not the dynamo. at least that's what i gather...

dude you still alive? lol! i don't mean to bother you, but i'm just wondering if you found that old union dynamo. if not, i'll just probably buy the new basta version which is similar to mine as nobody seems to have it anymore. i must do something because i just came back from a 15 mile ride in the dark & the lights are starting to flicker badly. i checked all the connections & replaced all the bulbs to no prevail. i guess the dynamo is shot. i got my money's worth out of it over the years...

yeah, go ahead. if you have the same one, it's worth waiting for & like i said, i'll buy it if it's good. i would like to get a matching dymano like the one i already have otherwise, i'd have to buy 2 new ones. i think the old units were built better anyway & i would like to get one like my old one. when you find it, can you e-mail a picture of it to me or post it here? i want to make sure the bracket & everything else is a perfect match so it bolts up to my existing bracket.....

Yes I did, the day before yesterday - in the third junk box I looked in. It appears in OK condition, but I'd like to mount it on a bicycle to see if it works properly. Just bench connecting it to a bulb and spinning the rotor doesn't appear to make it sing so it needs a road test which will be next week as I am away for the weekend. I will try it out early next week and definitely before I go on vacation for 10 days. Thank you for your patience.

cool. as long as it's the same one & does not maks any noise, it should be good. let me know what happens......

did it test out good? out of curiosity, is it a left hand model, or a right hand model?

dude, don't worry about the dynamo--i've decided to get a hub dynamo for the bike. i actually sold the old set on my bike to a person on another bicycle forum. thanks for looking anyway! i hope you did'nt go to a lot of trouble!

First off, I really like those dynohubs as they don't stand out as much and have seem to offset the added friction that dynos require (Granted they use a lot of magnets instead).

However, I saw a rather niffty thing the other day with this guy with a dynamo set. He had an added capacitor hooked up to his dynamo so it would provide a charge while he stopped (at a light for instance).

So far, I haven't been able to find one of these or any information about them. I was wondering if anyone out there (especially in Europe) that might have a notion of what I'm talking about.

If not I may just have to look at a basic electronics book and see if I can't jury-rig one myself. Of course, I need to get a dynamo first.... :o
