  1. Riding to work yesterday, felt a crunch in my mouth, and spat out half my friggin wisdom tooth!!!

    Unbelievable, head-splitting pain ensued.
rode to town, tried to phone dentists. any dentists. Quickest appointment i could get was 4pm. grrrrrr.owwwwww.grrrrr

got a nice young lass on phone and in my pained haze assumed she was to be the dentist. When i arrived a 6'6" German dude looking way too much like Laurence Olivier in 'Marathon Man' (or was it boys from Brazil???) walks in. would he utter those words...
    "eeezzzz eett zaaaffee???"
thankfully not, but I'm a woos when it come sto dentists at the best of times but the size of the friggin needles and mining-grade tools he was wielding had my HR at an alltime new high (i had forgot i had the thing on and musta bumped it on by mistake while in the chair?).
    Beat my previous by 6bpm.
Very swollen jaw. can only eat mushy food till stitiches fall out

shall never complain about HR on hills again. maybe...

Very important medical experiment you just accidentally performed.

See, it's actually the fear factor that gets your HR up on hills, not
the workload. You just need to ride some scarier hills.

Why is it that wisdom teeth have to cause so much pain? I know that
"blinding, can't communicate, don't come near me or I'll vaporise you"

I have never, ever had anything done to my teeth, so I have no point of
reference with which to empathise. Even so, I still had this horrible
nerve-grating mental image of what I imagine it to be like. Ow, ow, ow.

Well the soup I made hade tasty bits of lamb, but they were extra soft from
having been made into soup. Beef works as well, but I personally prefer

My HRM dates from the late 80's - Its a polar but badged as something else It was OK then but now suffers greatly from interfence from passing cars in more recent imes- I now seem to spend all my time riding round at 235 bpm or perhaps that's just fear and old age.

There was a comedian on TV, can't remember who, he said that on a tour
of Germany he'd joke that "the one problem I find here is that people
don't eat enough meat." The Germans would invariably react with "I don't
sink so ... no, you are wrong ... ve eat lots of meat here ... don't you
    agree Hans?"

Mum made me some chicken and pumpkin soup. The minced chicken bits
were just the right size to fill my newly aquired cavities at the back
    of my gums. Ouch.

The cats did enjoy the pumpkin soup. It was especially funny watching

Oooooo, no good, no good. Don't know if you've suffered the same reaction from folks who constantly ask "whats wrong" "are you ok" "why are you so grumpy" "why is your face swollen" blahblahblah. I lost a molar (+ exposed nerve) due to a industrial-strength barley sugar & had to put up with this [censored] until the dentists appointment. The only comeback I had was to constantly mutter "flock orff".

Fark. That sucks. I know your pain only too well unfortunately.

Me too, had far too many bad dentists who have caused me unecessary pain and sufferring. Of course I shoulder my share of responsibility, I used to really neglect my teeth and it shows, however I've had work done I now know didn't need to be done and had three teeth extracted that could have been saved.

The trick is finding a good dentist. I lucked in as Suzie's dentist is also a friend of her dad and, co-inicidentally, a mad keen cyclist. No shortage of conversation topics when I go for my (now regular) check ups :-)

He's also damned good at what he does and, by his own admission, much more considerate of patient comfort having had to have work done himself.

As for food, can't remember the name of the dish but it's basically pureed potatoes, fish and stuff. Really yummy and nutritious, straight out of the AIS cook book. Will send you the recipie when I get home if you like.

Hope it all gets better soon.

Pumpkin soup is particularly good stuff. Roasting the pumpkin first and
ensuring adequate amounts of fresh ginger and coriander is essential though.

And my tooth saga goes on. Now I am being referred to a

As I posted to ARK a couple of days ago:

    I didn't visit a dentist for 5 years. Then I decided I better do
something about my wisdom teeth, since a previous dentist said "you'll
need to get 'em out in a few years".

Bad mistake. He said my teeth were good, but then took to them with
    something resembling a file.

My teeth were sensetive to everything for about 6 months after.

I went to a different dentist when it came time for the Transport
