A cycling facility has appeared in Durham which is probably supposed to allow cyclists to make use of an otherwise one-way street in the contraflow direction. Nothing unusual in that. However, I think they may have overlooked something:
Not at all. They are simply reinforcing the view tthat cyclists aren't expected to follow road signs. Because they're not /real/ traffic. There are several instances like that in Peterborough, most of them fairly new.
What does the council's cycling officer say? The local NCN?
BTW - the person who painted those road markings - have they ever /seen/ a bicycle??

No idea, I've only recently noticed the facility and this was the first chance to take a picture. Last time I contacted the council to enquire about the whys and wherefores of a different lane I just got a copy of a map with a bit of highlighter pen added that didn't tell me anything at all about the cycle lane but told me loads about some council officers.

I'll contact both sometime today.

Come on, to paint a proper bicycle they'd have to make the lane a decent width! Still, interesting trail on their bike.
Fascinating. Is one then supposed to go on the path where the lady is walking?

Yes, this paved ramp, with short switchbacks near the top out of view, gives access to the centre of Durham as well as the continuation of route 14. You'll notice that there are no signs indicating shared use though.
