Just to give this idea some free space from 'other' discussions in its originating thread...
How about a mass weekend drive down Beach Road instead of a cycle?
If we picked one weekend, all drove at 40 km/hr (hmmm, 55k/h ?) with bikes mounted on the car to identify us as cyclists, we could show that:
we are a large group (voice) when acting collectively
we (mostly) all drive and pay registration fees
if we chose to drive rather than cycle we would be adding considerably to traffic congestion.
(my personal opinion is this 'drive' should go elsewhere to really highlight the issue on 'everyday' roads too)
imagine if even half of the 10,000 cyclists a weekend day did this in an organised fashion, (but didn't break any road rules), even Channel 7 would struggle to vilify us.
So, thoughts people?
Please try and keep it constructive and OT 😄
PS what if we all wore our helmets while doing this drive? to further highlight the danger of cars on our roads and to further ID us as cyclists
(i for one have the towbar rack, not the roofrack version...)
