i just bought these new parts off e-bay, but i do not know if they are compatible with my bike. i bought dura ace front and rear derailleurs for a 9 speed, but i have a cannondale that has a 3 ring crank and 8 speed cassette, can i put the new derailleurs on my bike? i have '98 cannondale R300 CAAD2 design. i already got a dura ace chain, so im wondering what else i would need to change if it is even possible. i was told that i can not even fit a 9 speed cassette on my bike... i need help... thanks so much.

Ever considered asking before you buy stuff. If you have a triple front crankset,you need a triple FD,and a triple RD is optional. You can put a 9 speed casette on an 8 speed shimano hub,but then you need new 9 speed shifters.

Which Shimano DURA ACE front and rear 9 speed derailers? There are ones for triple front and double front. What are you trying to do? What rear hub do you have? Some can handle 9 speed cassettes and some can't. If you want to keep your triple ring front you will need a front derailer that handles that. You should look around Shimano's bike web site. You can use the 9 speed DURA ACE rear derailer with a Shimano spaced 8 speed cassette. Take a look at the directions where to connect the cable on: http://bike.shimano.com/product_images/RD/si_images/RD_7700_SI.pdf However, your rear derailer may not have the range you want unless your cassette and chain rings follow the specified range. There are a lot more parts to the story, but you need to answer the questions before it is possible to help.

The optional cable mount for 9 speed RD is used when The derailer is used with 8 speed DA REAR SHUFER and an 8 speed casette.... With other 8 speed shimano shifters, the normal cable mount is used.... Pre 9 speed DA shifters/RD had unique cable pull/deralier throw,and the optional mount changes the deralier throw to make it compatible with the 8 speed DA shifters.
Thank you for your help so far... Here's some more information so maybe i could get some more answers. The new derailers are DA 7700's. right now i have rsx components on my bike. I'm not sure what that tells me about my rear hub. I'm basically trying to integrate my new parts with as little change as possible. If you have any help or ideas let me know. thanks. -ash

They work.If you have a triple crankset,you need a triple FD.DA triple front is part #7703. FD mounting has to match in clamp diameter. or if the FD is a braze on,adapter clamps are available if the frame does not have a mounting tab. If you did not get a triple RD, 7700GS with a long cage, you may have a problem with inadeadequate wrap capacity.If so, say out of the smaller cogs when in the granny, and be suur to size the chain to handle the big/big combination for the casette you are using..You have an 8 speed hyperglide hub.That means you can use a 9 or 10 speed speed casette on it.That would also mean you need 9 or 10 speed shifters to go with it , and a 10 speed chain too.
