    It depends where you are and what you're doing. Fleece layers for a
    stop in prolonged cold (i.e., below zero) will require a considerably
    greater weight and bulk of fleece. The point of a downie is to save
    weight and space, which in turn gives you more options for other things
    to carry (which makes you, of course, more versatile).

    I'd put it well down the list in terms of prioritising things to buy,
    but if you've got the fleece and other stuff already have the money to
    burn then it can lighten and shrink your pack, which is a Good Thing.
