Item one: The bike was 'lost' in shipping. By that I mean that it was unknown to the people at CC where the bike was or what the status was as it was bing shipped. The did not have any record of it (they misplaced it). It showed up at my place, but I felt uneasy about them not having my information.

Item two: On its second ride, the rear deralleur exploded and needed to be replaced. They did so, but the charged me for the new one then credited me after I shipped mine back. The didn't have 105's in stock so I got an Ultegra (cool that its an upgrade, but now I have mismatched components)

Item three: If you trash a deralleur, you probably have trashed the removable dropout like I did, they did not send me one so that even more time that I had to wait.

Item four: The customer service department is RUDE! (for the most part)

Now, having said all of that, I do like the bike. It was a great value for the price and it weighs nearly nothing. With the help of my local shop, its tight and true and a joy to ride. Bottom line, buy it if you can't find something comparable in your local shop, then take it to a competant mechanic for a once over before you saddle up.

I agree. Colo. Cyc. is getting worse and worse in the service area. I think they have an employee retention problem(salaries). If you need to order a specific thing online, okay. The human contact experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Nasty service aside, I wouldn't hold an exploding rear-dlr against the Douglas label. In fact, the episode gave your Douglas a chance to shine: you got to see first hand the value of a replaceable dlr-hanger (albeit a late-shipping one).

On a frame without a replaceable hanger, you'd have been in trouble.

Agreed! This bike is good and rear d's do explode, but it was the service that I had issues with. It's a very good value. My understanding is that it is the 'house brand' frame and CC hangs all of the goodies on it themselves. Saves beaucoup $ and that's why you get so much bike for the price. I don't know who actually makes the frames.

Thanks for the input🙂 So far i can't find a bike in the local shops with the specs of the douglas for a price in this area.

03exlcoupe, are Douglases even distributed non-mail order? I thought they were only available via Colorado Cyclist.

I think it is only Colorado C brand. Well, i just ordered it today 61 cm. Price was $799. Also got some look pp337 pedals.

My dad is a tad bit shorter than I am and i ride a cannondale 63cm frame. He rode my cannondale the other day and it was too big, so for that price he will make the 61cm douglas work.
