I hold that an event can occur whether or not it is generally recognised as having occurred. The
absence of consensus on the 'facts' of an event do not, to my mind, preclude the possibility that an

fact that events will occur in future without observation or comment mean that their existence

Caring is not essential to the existence of a scandal. The scandal exists even if no-one cares. Do
deny it its existence is to argue that the clouds are not in the sky because no-one looks at them.
We are touched by their shadow as surely as we are changed by the moral values of the acceptance of
drugs in sport. So, yes, it's still a scandal even if no-one cares.

I guarantee that somebody cares: The sponsors that pay the bills for the Olympics. The Olympic Games
is the most watched sports event in the world, and it is VERY big business. Much--perhaps most--of
the cost is paid by corporate sponsors in the US. These people do NOT want their corporate identity
associated with any people resembling the East German sports machine or Columbian Drug Lords (take

Let me ask you a question. Would you rather be missed or remembered? They aren't the same thing. I'd
rather be remembered. To be missed suggests that people aren't quite complete without you. I missed
my dad for years because he died before he was able to pass on everything I needed to know to be at
one with the world. I would HATE to be missed. I'd feel as though - in some way - I'd failed to
complete my mission, whatever that
is. So I'm glad you didn't miss me, but I hope that you'll always remember me. That way I'll know
that I filled a particular need - even if it was your need to despise - and that the corner of
your soul is forever mine.
