Does weight training improve cycling speed or are all the pros just wasting their time in the gym, and if so, can someone explain to me why a rider like Lance Armstrong, with his notably muscular physique, was still able to dominate the Tour de France for years, despite presumably having the aerodynamic profile of a brick wall?

    I mean, think about it, if weight training really does improve cycling speed, wouldnt we see more riders looking like The Rock, and wouldnt the UCI have to start issuing weight classes to compensate for the varying levels of muscle mass?

    And yet, despite the apparent benefits of weight training, most professional cyclists still look like theyd get blown away by a gentle breeze, so either theyre all secretly hiding their muscle-bound physiques under layers of Lycra, or the benefits of weight training are being vastly overstated.

    So, which is it? Are weight training programs just a bunch of hooey, or are there actually some tangible benefits to hitting the gym that us amateur cyclists are just too dense to understand?
