  1. We are a new company specialising in ration pack for the outdoor adventurer.

We want to create a cycling day food pack.

Would anyone purchase one of these if it were available?

What does a cyclist pack for a days ride?

    Thankyou in advance.

  2. Send me a couple dozen. I'll pass them around to my riding buddies and we'll give you some feedback (no pun intended).

    That is the question.

We want to create a pack for the cyclists out there.

We already do one for the hiker/trekker, and now want to create a pack for the cyclist.

Any suggestion on what to put in the pack would be appreciated.

I think you'll have to decide on what kind of cyclist you want to sell this to. If you are selling to someone who is going on a just a longer ride, I would think it would contain fewer items than your pack for a trekker. Most cyclists going out for an hour or two might only want one or two items with them. I'm not sure how large of a market there is for cyclists on multi-day trips. That might be your goal market, but somewhat limited in the number of people who actually do it. You could check the thread on this bulletin board "What food do you eat on the bike" or something like that. I know there is at least one long lasting thread with some similar name.

Typically, many bikers like a sport drink (gateraide type of drink) or just water, some sort of sports bar (like a powerbar or something like it) or sports gel (it can be easier to consume). Often riders will include a banana, or cookies or some variety. But even on long distance rides, many riders carry very little. Stuff that can fit in the pockets of a cycling jersey is all thats carried. Good for you, with the growing prevalence of hydration packs--cargo carrying capacity has also grown. I know that on very long rides, I'll find somewhere to stop to refuel and rehydrate. That brings up the question: Where do you sell these? Sports stores? Grocery stores (markets)? Gas stations?

If you have any sway in developing items to go in a pack--sports drink in a pouch (like juice pouches for kids) instead of a bottle could be interesting. It would fit better in a cycling jersey pocket (and perhaps your pack). Nobody sells it that way now that I know of. Of course in a jersey pocket--it might warm up a bit, but the liquid would still do it's job.

That's what I think about this at the moment.

  6. Hi Shane,
Funny you should ask, I was telling some people about the
Bannana Guard the other Day and they didn't believe me....I guess these Gadgets defeat part of the purpose of carrying a Bannana..once you've eaten it you can throw the skin away because it's bio-degradable...not so with a Bannana Guard...if you ride over one that's been discarded in the middle of the bike lane at 30mph you'd be off like a Prom Dress....

People like/carry different things, so it would be hard to make up a pack that could please everyone....

Me, I like Sausages, I carry them under my Helmet...if they're not already consumed and you crash they give the added bonus of extra head protection..the look on the Paramedics Face as they remove your helmet is priceless...."Hey, we'd better get him to ICU quick, he's lost half his Brains..." 😄

That looks like something I'd find at an adult "toy" store.
