  1. I've been reading this Group for some time now and I haven't seemed to find
anyone describing similar problems. I do apologize if this issue has been
    covered before.

Unlike most of the posts I've read, I've been on Depo Provera for years already.
I've only gained about 5 pounds or so (the rest of my weight gain was due to
inactive lifestyle, incredibly poor eating habits and getting a desk job). I
haven't had my TOM or any symptoms for the 4 years I've been on Depo. I've been
LC'ing for about two months now, starting just before the holidays. The week of
Christmas I started bleeding and getting really bad cramps - way worse than I ever
had before. At first I believed it was just the stress of the holidays, and I was
fine for a couple of days, but now that everything's over and done with, I'm
    cramped and bleeding heavily again.

I guess I'm wondering if it can be explained away that I'm not getting enough of
some vitamin or something. I haven't been taking a multivitamin, but will soon
    start again.

I'm due for another shot in a couple of weeks, so if it's something simple like
vitamins, I'd rather not have to take time off work twice.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kris

i have been on depo for five or six years and have been low carbing for
about two years. i have not experienced any breakthrough bleeding or
cramps. i am not a doctor, but i doubt it can be explained away by
vitamins (there are differing schools of thought on whether or not
vitamins are useful, but i'd recommend getting on that multi and making
it a habit), and i don't think the two things (low carb + depo side
effects) are likely to be related. you should definitely discuss it
with your ob-gyn or nurse practitioner when you go in for your next
    shot, though.

i'd say that maybe you need to get your shots more frequently than every
12 weeks, but since you have already been getting them for four years i
would guess that that issue would have surfaced much sooner. still,
it's possible that stress &/or the new diet have altered your cycle.

Long, long ago, I read somewhere that girls are getting their periods
earlier because of hormones in beef. So, if that's true, and if you're
eating more beef now than you were before, I could see that it's possible
for it to affect your menstruation. But, heavy bleeding and bad cramping
sounds like it could be more serious, and you should talk to your doctor.

I've been on Depo for 10 years, and LC-ing for 6 months. I've had no change
in mood swings, no TOM, nothing bad at all.

Might be a good idea to get a checkup with your next jab.... Incidentally,
there's been a health scare in the UK, and my surgery won't give me any more
Depo jabs because of an increased chance of uterine cancer. I'm moving to an
IUD that does the same job instead.

  5. I've been low carbing for five years.

    On Depo for six.

    No bleeding whatsoever.

LC can change your hormone levels. Estrogen is stored in fat, flushing fat out
lets all that estrogen out in your body too. Although I wouldn't say it's a bad
thing, not having your period for four years *can't* be good. They use to make
people take a break after 2 years on depo, I wonder why they don't anymore?
