The three major chains in the Denver area do this, as well as
some of the specialty/gourmet food stores.

Sure they do. I work in PA and there are a lot of supermarkets where you
can get a catered dinner for any of the major holidays. Every
Thanksgiving for the past ten years or so, my family in PA gets together
for a big feast that consists of a turkey and other trimmings from a
supermarket called Genardi's.

stores around here do -Detroit- if you want to pay the prices which I
feel is a ripoff.
One store I go to for imported food items had a complete corned beef
dinner - meat, mash potatoes, cabbage & roll butter for $10.00 - single
serving-.
Two bites it would be gone. Bet it's still sitting in the cooler shelf.

Very common in the San Francisco bay area, though after the human
finger found in a bowl of chili at a local fast food (Wendy's) i doubt i
would want to ever use the service. Also the price is as much as as 10
times the cost of cooking ones own meal.

(laughing) My mother bought into this once without reading the fine print.
It was a fully cooked but solidly frozen dinner. Frozen turkey, frozen
dressing, frozen mashed potatoes, frozen gravy. Would have taken 12 hours
to thaw that turkey and heat it up. We had broiled T-bone steak for dinner
that year.

I am in PA and there are a number of markets where you can get complete
holiday dinners. Stores got into deli counters and such meal prep
because there is a much bigger margin in prepared food.

On Lung Guyland the markets with a deli section offer a hot plate
representitve of major holidays, very tasty, generous, and quite
reasonably priced, around $5 for a full meal... haven't seen anything
like it up here in hillybillyburg... the local firehouse did advertise
a fish fry for St. Paddy's Day, but the morning-of they cancelled... no
reason. The vittles up here stink, both at markets and restaurants...
even the meals on wheels is pretty paltry.

Oh, yeah, it's real. The high buck place does it and so does Cub. My
niece did it at Christmas and said it wasn't bad but not like homemade.
Not sure I've seen an Easter dinner like that, though.

Most of the larger markets here have good-sized delis that do this
everyday - they just specialize more for the holidays. Few years ago,
I was in the habit of hitting one up right before the deli closed at 7
pm - cause all the stuff like shrimp salad was half price or less. I
stopped doing this when myself and a friend got ridiculously sick from
their macaroni salad.

Oh, yeah, it's real. The high buck place does it and so does Cub.
My niece did it at Christmas and said it wasn't bad but not like
homemade. Not sure I've seen an Easter dinner like that, though.

At xmas several of the larger hotels in my town offer take away
pre-ordered meals...You need to put your order in about a month in
advance...limited to turkey/ham, veggies, stuffing, gravy and possibly
your choice of 2 or 3 types of pie etc. Most everything you'd need
excepting plates and silverware. You need to select the veggies, the
number of pies, size of turkey etc...when you order. On the day at the
time you/they selected...you pick up your meal and go somewhere to eat
it. Usually the meal is ready about 2pm for pick-up or they'll hold it
longer for you.

In the last years of my mother's life...it was easier to pick up a
holiday meal and drive to her house to share xmas with her. Than cooking
at her house or prying her outa her's.

People think I'm making it up, but it really happened. My mother is
normally a meek person but when we took that box of frozen stuff back to the
store, she went OFF on the manager for false advertising. And we bought the
steaks from a different store!

People also think I'm making it up when I got the phone call while doing
tech support back in the 80's asking me, "It says press any key to continue.
Where's the ANY key?" Sorry, but it's true 🙂

Soon I'll be sowing seeds... but I still have until late May before
putting in my plants. But right now there is still a few inches of
snow on the ground. Today I ordered some more trees, Gingko and London
Planetree, and a Clematis. And I have lots of chores awaiting, I need
to put up a lot of deer fencing, they got some of my foundation shrubs
this winter.
