  1. I know there are threads about who we think will win, and there are different loyalties and hopes for who we want to win, but I am just wondering how cycling fans in general feel. Do you want Lance Armstrong to win this year's Tour de France?

  2. Perhaps the question should read: "Do you want a boring Tour this year ?" 😎

Allez Vino!! do it for the lingering spectre of Communism!

  4. Sure..his a legend without comparison last years and I wish him the best end of his career.

  5. No, 6 is good enough... It is time for a new era and for his successor to have any credibility he must beat LA... I will draw a parallel with F1... I am a huge Schumacher fan but his fall from grace this year did wonders for F1...

yep definitely. for the tour's sake, lance has to lose lol.

  7. Although I would like to see Jan or Vino win the Tour, I wouldn't be disappointed if Lance Armstrong won, again. His work ethic and the effort he puts into cycling is very impressive.

I've got to agree here. As much as I'm pulling for Lance, he must lose in order for the "next" great bike racer to step from the shadows. Although if Lance won this final tour I must admit next year would be interesting because it would be essentially wide open (no one has really proven to be a winner for the last 7 years 🙂 ).

I believe the problem here is that Lance may have overstayed his welcome. Going for this 7th Tour feels forced, any all-time great would love to leave at their pinnacle, leaving the fans with a memorable moment. This seems greedy. Perhaps last year should have been the year. Parallel this to Michael Jordan's situation a few years back (before the lame comeback), he hit that final shot and walked away, leaving the fans wanting more. As with any dynasty, some fans relish it while most get bored with it (just read this forum and scan for how many are tired of Lance). It'll be especially interesting in the US to see where the popularity of cycling goes post-Lance.

That said, I must hope that Lance goes out on top. He does deserve it after all.

  9. I'm rooting for vino...but i think i'll be kinda sad if LA loses. i may not like the fact that he has been dominating the sport for nearly seven years now, but the fact of the matter is that if it wasnt for LA, most americans still wouldn't even know about TdF. He has really helped cycling grow in popularity in the states and for that i have to respect him.

so i guess im saying yes and no.

  10. I don't even want to think Lance will lose. I want to think about Lance as the only one who is never losing.

  11. I wasn't really sure until the last two stages, it was then I realised I really want Jan or Alexandre Vino to do something special. It would make it nice. Even if Lance does come out on top - I think we all want to see a good battle in the mountains.

  12. I want to see a good fight, and a close race (more exciting). But, I'd like to see Lance go out on top. Moving the record to 7 would be simply amazing, and give the sport another legend...

  13. If Lance wins there will be no defending champ for next year.

  14. Tour De Lance?

    :p

  15. Thanks for all the good words, friends. I am the same as many of you, though I voted "no." I hope someone else wins; I think it will help keep Americans from thinking the Tour, and cycling in general, is an easy sport we can dominate at will. But then again maybe another victory by Lance will give people more appreciation of the Tour, and that is a good thing. I pulled for Lance through his fifth win, in 2003, especially when he had to fight hard to get it (I remember shouting in triumph when I heard on NPR that he won in spite of his crash at Luz Ardiden). His victory last year was awesome, though I was pulling for Basso, and I would rather see Lance alongside the other five-time winners than standing out above them.
