Yup. There's little reason not to -- they're cheap, easy to set up, and pretty useful. The basic functions nearly all computers share -- a speedometer, odometer, tripometer, a clock and a stopwatch -- are helpful no matter what your level is.

For ~1% of the cost of a bike, who wouldn't want a computuer for at least basic speed/distance/time info? Cadence and HRM are important too if you're really into training for fitness and/or competition.

I have a Bell computer that I bought for $12 (US). Cheap but it works.

POLAR 720 S plus a CATEYE 7 Cordless... use them both,,, at the same time...

POLAR concentrates on my body and CATEYE on the bike.... (Good to have a back up when one is playing up too...

My CATEYE has been missing beats lately... not sure why... The magnet is lined up....

Some times it won't work near my TV either when I'm on the roller... must be getting conflicting signals from somewhere....

Agreed. I like the "Average Speed" function too. It's nice to be able to know what your average was for a ride. I don't have a computer on my new road bike yet. I've got them on my other two bikes.

I hate to run that damn wire up the fork on my pretty new road bike (ridiculous I know). Anyone have any experience with the new computer from Mavic? It's a wireless model with the sensor pick-up built into the QR, so you don't have to mount it to your fork. Looks like it'd be nice and clean looking.

Yes, I just got around to getting one a week or so ago. Cateye Astrale 8 with cadence (which is the reason I got it). I had enough of carrying my GPS in my jersey pocket to keep track of distance and avg speed, and If I wanted to look at it, I needed to sit up and get it out, all while catching wind for no reason. I also just got a HRM, Sports Instruments ECG-5 to go along with the comp.

sigma bc1200 - had it for about 5 years and haven't had to change battery yet.

you can also get a cadence attachment - don't know about the newer model - and change to any wheel size
