Yes, they happen, but they happen the way drunk driving accidents
happen: someone had to be recklessly negligent for it to happen in the
first place.

The USAToday story makes it sound like it was Whittingham's fault for
sneaking up behind Cheney. I say it's Cheney's fault because he was the
one in charge of the trigger.

I have not forgotten that guy who shot his kid in the back at close
range this past Fall. I think he murdered his kid. It was probably
negligent homicide versus intentional homicide, but in either case it's
no "accident" if you are being criminally negligent when it happens.

Accidents happen. Most hunting accidents involve negligence on either
the shooter's part or the victim's part but not always. Thankfully,
hunting is a very safe activity for the most part.
