  1. Should we be worried about "trans-fatty acids" in cosmetics?

I am told over 60% of what you put on your skin you absorb
    into the body!

I have peeling/dry skin and thus regularly use a
moisturiser. But I sure as Hell bet cosmetics companies dont
    list "trans-fatty acids" as ingredients.

I have been using "Oil of Olay" moisturiser twice a day for
about 15 years. And I have chronic fatigue about the same
    length of time!

    Yikes!

Well there you have it then. That's obviously the
    answer isn't it?

Okay so that's your conclusion. Please tell us the level of
your knowledge? What %age of oils put onto our skin does get
    absorbed in your opinion?

Are you saying NONE gets in?

How else do you explain suntain oil getting into

Where else do you suppose moisturisers go?

Your sarcasm is beneath you. In the absense of any other

Stop using it and see what happens. If your chronic fatigue
disappears, you can sue the Olay folk, or think of something
else to contract. I've long had the feeling that you're

the proposed EU Constitution ( the new on that is - the EU
already has a constitution dating back to 1956 and scattered
about among a number of documents ) is obviously relevant to
diabetics, not least because it will incorporate the EU
Charter of Rights agreed in 2000. The Charter has several
articles which seem to be relevant to diabetics .. Article 3
    - medicine and biology A 8 - data A 24 - rights of children
    A 25 - rights of the elderly A 26 - integration of people
with disabilities A 34 - social security and social
assistance A 55 - health care These should certainly give
some extra leverage to diabetics if enshrined by the EU (
for example parents fighting to get enough test strips for
the children could cite Articles 3, 24 and 55 to help
support their case ). Remember at the moment people in the
UK are SUBJECTS not citizens and are dependent on the grace
and favour of the Sovereign for the liberties we enjoy.

My understanding about the risks associated with trans fatty
acid, is that they act similiarly to saturated fatty acids
    and can increase cholesterol.

I would not expect any other affects.

So what dows this have to do with trans fatty acids? EPA
is not a trans fatty acid.
    j.

Sorry for the confusion. No, what is being proposed is that
trans fatty acids in the diet can cause malfunctioning of
the synthetic metabolic pathways for fatty acids
particularly EPA Stress, and pollutant also inhibit these
    pathways too apparently.

Basant Puri is suggesting that eating pure EPA (strangely
without DHA for some mysterious but it seems clinically
proven reason) in the diet helps cure a variety of diseases
noteably clinical depression, but also significantly helps
such things as heart disease, ME/CFS, irritable bowl ...and
diabetes. (Hence this posting to a spread of newsgroups.)

He blames trans fatty acids in the western diet as being the
root of all "diseases of civilisation".

Taking his logic one step further I am reliably informed
that it is a fairly recent discovery that more than half of
everything we put on the skin will, given time, end up in
the bloodstream. (Hence the health scares about suntan
lotion, face creams etc in mothers milk).

In a sense Basant Puri is arguing that EPA is almost an anti-
    dote to trans fatty acids.
