Grind each side individual taking care not to melt anything, then
grind sides together and flush-that is - grind the lips off and
measure body. The body gets ground some to fit into the chain then
you'll see where the body's outside gets ground to fit in between the
inner link.

coat new tool with linseed oil and place in grocery store bag, tie,
and allow to dry.

the tool is useful!
jaws were ground to 3mm.
and offset 1mm-place offset to other side of the pin grooves when
squeezzzzzzsing
the jaws were ground back toward the handle end 30-40mm

used the General tools pocket rule at $2 HDepot to measure-an upgrade
equal to the link pliers! and with a spoke caliper...
plus a cabinet door magnet for bearing measures
notice how the container serves as a tool holder-open top, taped back
into place sides
then throw into bottom of tool box after siliconeing-try CRC now at Wal

found a new sram powerlink and installed on the heavily plated hg50
chain-
tool at 3mm was now too wide.
if a grinder is unavailable-a grinding wheel from ace or HDepot fitted
to threaded rod and red locktited down, carefully cenetered with
washers, the drill chuck end filed and squared flat will do: see 'DIY
paint removal' in tech archives

found a new sram linik hiding in the drawers-
new link with the hg50 was too thick for the 3mm
if no grinder-a grinding wheel mounted on threaded rod to fit your
drill-red loctite with flat washers and double nuts with lock
washers-carfefully centered in the arbor-chuck end of rod file
square-will grind-tape the drill down and kneel on it
