Didn't Jaywoo post a DIY stand here ages ago. Used a small step ladder as the stand. I sort of made one with my very limited "tool kit" and it works fine, can still be used as a small step ladder and can be folded up and put away.

Hey Hugh, that 14% sign, that wasnt taken from Magnetic Island was it? I saw a few of those around there a few weeks back, but dont remember seeing a 14%er... even tho some of those hills were more!

Yep - Yep - Maggie Island. That one is about 200m past the Arcadia Hotel/ Alma Beach on the road ( only bloody road stupid doh) to Horseshoe Bay. Most people dont see it because they looking ahead at the road going straight up. Its outside the last house approx. Like a lot of things up here I think they just took a guess and whacked up whatever sign they had on the back of the truck.

You didnt get your Passport stamped at the Villa Hughmann border crossing. Give us a yell next time u are planning to come up this way.

Very sensible visiting at this time of year, been a bit windy but great temps. Actually I was probably away while u were here. Did Townsville 2 Cairns Childrens Cancer Ride, we raised $190,000 for research into kids cancer by CCIA. And then I rode, supported by yf in car, bits of the Mossman to Cooktown road. Got a big ride report coming one day!

Hi Hugh,
What team did you ride in for the CCIA ride just wondering as I might
have run into you....not literally of course. I rode with the
ahhhem...cough... Pink Kookaburras. Great ride huh but the roads north
of Tully are absolutely rubbish, something you just don't realize when
driving.

I was in the Red Goanas. Supposed to be a 20-25 kph group. Saw more of 32kph than 25 but I survived. Got up near the front and tucked in behind the biggest rider. With 200 riders and 45 or so support volunteers its hard ( for me anyhow) to be social and survive. I get to know the regulars on the training rides but I am normal and forget the names of lots of ppl on the ride. :o

Is a great ride and very popular. More ppl from NZ this year and first time a small crew from Melbourne and Sydney. The roads were fairly beaten up this year by Cyclone Larry. Usually the horror stretch is the Murray Flats just south of Tully. The jungle that used to shade the road north of Tully has all gone and the trees are stripped of limbs. With the new growth they look like a pipe cleaner forest.

339 days to go and we can do it again.

Hi Hugh would you be interested in joining a motley crew of riders for
casual w/e rides? We wont be riding real fast anywhere at least not as
fast as the QNI boys ride but not quite as slow as the CCIA social
riders, basically as slow as the slowest rider. So far we have a total
of 3 riders from the Tvl- Cns ride and one from the army thats
interested and looking for more. If you want you can pm me just remove
the "nospam."
