  1. Who is the leader of DC now LA has retired? I heard George was in the frame
    but have read nothing concrete?

Looks like we'll find out on august 12th. Leaving it a bit late for this
    year's TdF...

IMO Depends on the race, between Paolo Savoldelli and George Hincapie,
with Tom Danielson being groomed for the future.

That would be no change then, given that's effectively what happened in
the events Lance didn't race last year. I wonder which one (if any) of
them got up on January 1st this year and started their TdF preparation.

Goerge is injured and imo is not a grand tour rider anyway. Savoldellis
target logically must be the Giro.
So that leaves Tom Danielson as leader for the TDF this year. and I'm sure
he's trained hard over the winter.

    Hmmm. Here:

    http://tom-danielson.cyclingtoday.net/

    it says:

"Competing in the three week Italian race will keep Danielson, a
28-year-old Coloradan, from participating in the Tour de France."

They may be just trying to keep pressure off the guy of course, or let
him have a go at the Giro, and Savoldelli lead the TdF.
It's not an easy one to call, and I shudder to think what Hinault or
Merckx would think of someone who ruled themselves out of the TdF just
    because they entered the Giro.

So if Danielsons going for the Giro, then one can assume he'll ride the
    Vuelta again..
So do you think George will be team leader in the TDF? ( if he's fit)

I suspect it will differ depending upon the event.
With LA the focus was le Tour, but that no longer exists.
Hincapie is more a Classics rider and they lost Landis so I can't really see
the Tour within their grasp this year.

Grand tour Team wise, I think CSC looks to be the strongest. Ivan Basso
will be one of the favourites for the TDF.
And I'm hoping Alejandro Valverde will be on the podium with him in Paris.

If he doesn't, you can assume DC have given up on his chance of being
the main man. I think they'd love to give him the chance, but he's got a
lot to prove this year (like winning a Giro or Vuelta) if that's going
    to happen.

I think he's going to lose 3 to 6 weeks after his operation, which is
not going to leave him enough time to get fit for leading a serious TdF
effort. I think it was the team's plan, but I can't see it happening
right now. It's a pity, as he would have a good chance as a fully fit DC
team leader, but what can he do between recovery and the TdF to prove
    he's fit enough to lead?
