Oddly, I don't think you'll get much argument about this, here. Savoldelli
did an amazing job, forget team or nationality, and we're pretty well aware
that he didn't get much support during the race, except maybe the escort in
in the final stage, heh. I think it's been stated repeatedly that
Discovery's team in the Giro consisted of mostly, how do you say, 'lunch
meat'. ;-)

Uh just to be sure, I haven't seen anybody particularly cheering up
Americans or Discovery around here. Did I miss something?

strategy, since they not only won it, but had enough firepower to win the
Tour of Catalan at the same time 🙂

had a team. His first team was total lunch meat, and he finished 13th
at the age of 24. Then Saeco signed him - so then he spent four years,
from 1998-2001, as part of the leadout train for Cipollini. Yet he
finished second in 1999 and won a stage. Then he switched to Index
Alexia, a team which was built around Ivan Quaranta and had no climbers
at all. And it was on that nonexistant team that he won for the first time.

Bring this man to the start of the Giro d'Italia, team or no team, and
he'll get [censored] done. That's the only mistake Telekom made with him -
they never let him start the Giro.

Ah, you're right. Though the exchange rate seems to be cheapening it even
as we speak.

Dear piet hein,

Lighten up. Everyone knows that PS road a great race without great
support. You need to look at the bigger picture. Discovery arguably
sent the B team, but look what it did for their program. They now have
another set of riders who have been part of a winning grand tour team.
That can't do anything but help in future GTs.

Sending some good riders to Spain didn't exactly hurt them either. And I
suppose their team as a whole would have done better if Danielson hadn't
disappointed so much - their starting list wasn't really that bad
theoretically because of him.
