directions to NYCM starting line

what do you mean "directions"? it's at the foot of the Verazzano Bridge ...the
starting line. Yahoo Map Staten Island and look where the Bridge hits land.
There are 3 starts, 2 on top L & R lanes and one on the bottom.

I would guess 98% of those in the race take the chartered buses that are lined
up downtown near Rockefeller Center. $15 and was an option to reserve w/your
registraton. You can buy a pass at the Marathon Exhibition Nov. 3-7 when you
pick up your number as well.

The bus' are those large comfortable Greyhound buses...and it's the best way to
get to the start. It's extremely well coordinated, all the buses are escorted
to the start in fact by police....note if you don't have a race bib, you won't
even get near the buses....or the start.

I'd recommend going through New Jersey and across Statten Island. Or
even better yet taking the Ferry to Statten Island. I don't know which
is more accessable or the ferry schedule. You're on your own from here
since there are so many routes and possibilities that your driver will
have his or her favorite.

Whatever you do don't go through Brooklyn/Queens. The bridge gets
closed sometime around 8 or 9 am. And as I recall the bridge was a
nightmare to get around. Back in the days before high security my
friends and I would get dropped off in the toll plaza as the driver
would make a Uturn back over the bridge. Now you have to go around to
the entrance of the fort.

I think it might close even earlier than this now, at least that's
my recollection. The website has detaiols about what closes when.

because recognizing other runners is no easy task when you near the
